    Default Video Card questions.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT. I ran WoW at just under ultra, however in rift I have needed the low-quality renderer up to do anything with more than 2 players on the screen at a time. My sound chops constantly in areas of high-density spell effects.

I am not that technologically inclined, case in point I have no idea whether the problem is simply that I need a better card or if there's an easily fixable problem.

My card's drivers are up to date and everything, so hopefully someone here can help me out.

What's the rest of your system look like and what resolution are you running the game at?

You need a better card. That thing is severely underpowered.

Rift graphics are lightyears ahead of WoW graphics.

    Processor: Intel Celeron 450 @ 2.20 GHz,

    RAM: 2gb

    Windows Vista 32-bit

    Resolution 1440x900

Do you know if my GFX card is good for at least medium settings and maybe the problem lies elsewhere? I have a sinking feeling it might be my RAM after looking at it.

Thanks for the assistance though, for the response and in advance.

This. Unless op is running some incredibly low res like 1024x768, which seems to be pretty popular on this forum.

I'd upgrade to a cheap quad (AMD) system, and couple it with a 460/560/6870/6890 with that res.

with the celeron and the budget class video card, unfortunately there isnt much you can do without upgrading all of it

Thats why WoW ran on so high, 1440x900.

Rift is a CPU/GPU intensive game, which do use your system ram also.

2GB is too little, CPU too old (Single core) Rift uses 2 core, GPU to old.

Best you can do in Rift is run at Low with some stuff turn on.

not only is it too old, but celeron's are the budget level of cpu, underpowered

    Sinking feeling..

Nothing on your PC can be called ..bad..Its beyond that its in the lines of "Celerons still exist?" to the "Wow..A coffee grinder" in other words "PC for windows Office only and thats the 2003 version cause the others are heavy for it."

The cheapest thing you can do is this.. Get a 5770..its easily much stronger than your certain "GPU" so you will notice an improvement.

This is the first time i recommend a **** card like that..but anything else would be pointless for that system there.

I am afraid everyone else is right. That PC is pretty much a lost cause. It is about 4 generations and almost 8 years old.

Your only real option is a new rig. What type of budget do you have?

Wouldnt notice an improvement. the cpu/ram will bottleneck even the video card you suggested

Not a huge one. is everything upgradeable on its own? I can do it piece by piece if so.

Everything will have to be replaced.
    CPU/GPU/RAM/Mobo/PSU/HDD.., maybe case too.

Point to play is to get the most enjoyable play in rift. if everything looks sub par or laggy, how can you enjoy.

I run Rift on ultra with view distance maxed as well as object detail and such. I have a $100 Radeon HD 4670 that I bought from Best Buy.

    Cheap, sufficient video card.
"Oh, whats being casted on me? Its shiny and sparkly..."
