6850. I've always went with ATI and have never had a problem. Well, it's Radeon now.

Let me narrow the search a bit, should have specified. What can I find in Best Buy for under $200? (Need this for headstart, can't order online)

Hopefully when you go to Best Buy they will have nice people and can offer you a discount.

The 6850 will out perform the 460 in some games. Although its by a small margin.
The GTX460 will outperform the HD6850 in some games, although by a small margin.

In the end, they are pretty much equal in performance, so go with whatever you prefer.

I too would agree, that in the sub $200 price range, either of these will be a good choice.

BestBuy does carry both, in ASUS.
    The 460:

    The 6850:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+R...=1950084&st=HD 6850&cp=1&lp=1

Whether or not your local store actually has it is a different question.

I agree however, getting from TigerDirect or NewEgg may be the best bet.
In fact, it might actually be possible to save enough to get the card overnighted? Not sure, but worth checking.

    For rift?
Get a 460 1gb, maybe one whit custom dissipation.

Nvidia is currently better then Ati for RIFT.

man dont buy 6850... buy the models that end by 70, they got much better performance... if u cant afford 6870 then take 6770.(edit: 6770 doesnt exist so lol ok...)

a gtx 460 or 560 is surely better than hd6850

personally i got hd5870 and im very satisfied.

Don't get ATI unless you want to be embarrassed on benchmarks.

    u dont play a benchmark.

    u play a game.

Also Forumtroll: ur claiming 7100 points on 3dmark11 with a $500 card. Now compare the price of my XFX 5870 $220 and im getting 4600 points. i guess that getting 65% of ur performance on the main benchmark for a card that costs 45% of ur price is a win. So ATI can't be THAT bad.

The correct answer is the GTX 460 1GB.

There seems to be some sort of issues with AMD cards (people need to stop calling them ATI).

It doesn't matter WHY there are issues, only that there ARE issues with AMD cards. DO yourself a favor and stick with NVidia for Rift.

If the currently non-existent 6770 was better than a 6850, they would call it a 6860. The 5850 has been the best performance per dollar since the 4870 and it could be overclocked to outperform a stock clocked 5870. The 6950 currently can also flash into a 6970. All while costing over $100 less. Do I need to go on as to why that statement shouldn't be used?

The 560 does not compete with the 6850, it competes with the 6950. The 6850's competitor is the GTX460, which it matches quite well.

I personally would recommend going with the GTX460 for Rift, I've heard of less problems with them and Rift. Though I do have a HD6850 and I have no problems with it, I can't say you wont.
