Default New computer build -- could use feedback

Hi folks! Looking forward to this game coming out! My computer just went out so....

I'm building a new computer and I need some feedback to make sure everything will work and work well. I'm also operating from a modest budget $800-1000. I really appreciate it!

    CPU:
    Intel Core i5-650 Clarkdale 3.2GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80616I5650

    Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

    Heatsink:
    Thermaltake TR2 W0388RU 600W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply

    Video Card:
    EVGA 01G-P3-1465-AR GeForce GTX 465 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI

    Hard drive:
Western Digital Caviar Black WD6402AAEX 640GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

    DVD/CD Burner:
    LG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD±RW SuperMulti Drive - OEM

    Memory:
    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

    Case:
RAIDMAX Blackstorm ATX-615WW White Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

No other replies so I'll chime in with what I know works. I'm running an Asus Sabertooth x58 mobo, Core i7 950 cpu, and EVGA SC GTX 460 EE. 6 gig 1800 ddr3 ram, sata III 1tb WD caviar. I can run Rift, and anything else really, at Ultra settings and never skip a beat. Even when there is a raid rift mob with 60 people beating on it I dont go below 30-40 frames.

Thanks Micro! Appreciate your input. Made swapped out the gigabyte for the Asus mobo. Thanks!

If I recall the 465 is bad tech and should be avoided.

Be aware that the socket 1156 is outdated by the 1155 rumored to return by March.

You could get a better CPU..Just get a i5 750-760 the price doesnt change that much..

GTX465 isnt a good card..yes its faster than GTX 460 by a bit but its hotter..Unstable and loud..Its just a bad release from Nvidia..I barely know anyone own one..Go for a GTX 560 Ti.

About a mobo..Just make sure its a P55 and has at least 2 Sata 3 and USB 3 support..Thats all : > and obviously can take 1600Mhz ram by default..No OC modes.

Listen to him, you can get a CPU for the same price with effectively double the power. Intel I5 2400 @ 3.10

Not worth going intel at this time until the new CPUs come out "again". Maybe AMD as they are usually always upgrade friendly.

I5 2500/K and I7 2600/K are out of the question till the next month..If you want the PC now that isnt an option ..If you can wait till March-->Mid March then its best to wait for the mentioned CPUs or else go for a I5 760..

Yes I5 2500 is faster than I5 760 but the chipset for socket s1155 was faulty and has been recalled about two weeks ago..The new ones are getting send to the factories at Feb 14th..that means March->Mid March before the B3 Chipset goes live.

Might also want to up the PSU to an 800 watter possibly? just to give yourself a bit more breathing room depending on which graphics card you'll settle for

I really feel sorry for anyone that NEEDS a PC NOW and can't wait a month or so until Intel gets things straightened out.

If you absolutely must have it now, avoid the GTX 465. It was never very good, so there is absoultely no reason to get one now with so many better options out there.

With a $1000 budget you should be able to base your rig around an i5-760 and a GTX 560. Make sure to get a good PSU like the Corsair 650W, and you should be good to go.

The cpu is not going to come out again...***

The problem is with the supporting chipset, on motherboards, specifically the SATA II controller in the southbridge on P67 boards.

Use SATA 2 ports <3 or use SATA 3 (SATA 3 uses a different PLL so it is not effected).

the sandy bridge cpu is not the problem.

***Edited to clarify: The cpu is not going to come out "again" because it wasn't recalled, only motherboards using the P67 chipset are effected. You can still go buy a sandy bridge cpu today, but it might be tough to find a socket 1155 motherboard to plug it into. Sorry for not being more clear.

Yeah it will come back. Nothing wrong with the CPUs, they just got pulled back until motherboards are out again.
