Default I found Rift very juddery - is my laptop just too crappy?

I was in the Beta last weekend and was having a lot of slowdown and around 4fps - do I need a new laptop to play Rift? Here's my current Toshiba Satellite.

    Intel® Centrion® 2 Processor Technology featuring Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor P8400, Intel® PM45 Express chipset and Intel® WiFi Link 5100 clock speed : 2.26 GHz front side bus : 1066 MHz 2nd level cache : 3 MB

I think your graphic card is a little bit outdated, I would recommend buying a new computer :-)

It appears that your video resources are taxed. For quality gaming, this game needs about 512mb or more dedicated video memory. IMO
However, all is not lost, there is a setting in the video options, under advanced. it is the first check mark box. It says something like reduce video settings or something like that. It may help your FPS, but you will not see the games graphics.

Yes, that's the conclusion I have come to also tbh - it's not the computer, it's the graphics card.

As it's not really an option to replace it in a laptop then, yeah, I need a new PC

Trying to game on a laptop is like trying to race in a Prius.

You can race just fine in a Prius too.

It all comes down to your definition of "fine".

you live up to your name very well and are clearly as ignorant as it implies.

Gaming laptops can and do (I have one I know) perform very well in Rift and pretty much any other game.

Ran Rift on default ULTRA (so no AA) at a constant 25+ FPS.

He has actually provided some useful information in other threads. His argument is valid, dollar for dollar a laptop always loses in performance. However, what I linked above is not unreasonable $$ for great performance.
