Default Rift randomly crashes, reports RADAR_PRE_LEAK_WOW64 in events

It happens only when Rift is running and nothing else. Computer can run an entire day without any issues. Rift running it is bound to suddenly just restart. It happens when Rift is the only thing running but never happens when Rift is not running.

It happens very often when Reverb is enabled, so I disabled that. It crashes at char select screen and inside the game. I have changed video settings with no change. I have tried both 32-bit and 64-bit client and still crashing.

All drivers are latest. No dump file is generated during the crash and nothing in the event log (dxdiag events reports this issue unless I am not looking in the right logs). It just shuts down and restart.

Often it corrupts the Rift configuration files (they become binary). I have created a git repo based on latest Interfaces directory and after a crash I revert all changes which often is random binary data instead of lua scripts and textual data. Rift also resets its internal config files so the video/audio settings go to default and I have to watch the intro movie and agree to terms when I restart. So there is something bad happening internally before this.

At this point I can't really play, I can't join groups/raids/adventures because by the time I get back into the game after the crash I often get kicked from groups/raids or if I am fighting something I may return dead.

Attached below is dxdiag info hope that helps, note the problem reported with rift.exe and RADAR_PRE_LEAK_WOW64. Searching on that I found that it is "an event triggered by Memory leak detection logic. The reported parameters in this event are the Process name, the version of the process, and the version of the OS the process was running on"

I can't post DXDIAG report, the forum gives me "

Since I cant post entire dxdiag into a post and I can't attach the file, I am going to post it below in 3 parts.

    Question

Why does Rift crash more often lately with and without error message, just now and did not come in for minutes again! Can the Trions Server no longer work or what?

That's the problem I am having, it just vanishes, no crash dump, no error message and it takes the machine down with it. Nothing else does this, no other game or program, it will run without a problem for hours, I start rift and it will restart the machine. The only time this ever happened was with Pillars Of Eternity and with Reverb enabled, this was a known bug to them and a fix was to disable reverb in sound settings and problem went away. Has not helped with rift but I suspect it has to do with how rift and sound hardware interact.

I am hoping someone in support has some suggestion on how I can help them figure out why this is happening, it's very regular and only happens with rift.

I installed G930 headphones and audio drivers and will use that instead of the RealTek audio (built-in motherboard) and see if that helps, maybe it can be narrowed down to bad interaction between audio device and how rift uses it. I also have an older SoundBlaster card that I can use to test as well and disable the RealTek audio.

Monday used (Realtek ALC889 codec) which is on-board sound codec with latest driver from RealTek (6.00.0001.8186 you have to download from RealTek, Gigabyte only has the out-of-the-box driver and with the old driver Rift would crash very often with new driver much less which led me to suspect it may be related to audio):
    ---
4 crashes (only Rift was running)
3 crashes running around Xarth Mire
    1 Charatacter select screen

There were 2 more crashes that happened but that was after the crash where config got reset and Reverb was on by default and it crashed right away until I disabled Reverb so I won't count these.

    Tuesday used Logitech G930
    ---
    0 crashes

Wednesday using G930 will do further tests
    ---
1 crash using G930 only in Aalitu on the second floor, the game tried to reload itself, crashed and overwrote the Interfaces directory with binary junk (restored and trying again), but seems this is not an ssue specifically with ALC889

    - TODO run through Temple Of Ananke with and without "Enable Other Players' FX", this setting when turned on guarantees a crash on the second (pillar) boss. Sound starts looping and the game locks up (which you can kill with process viewer so not like the hard reset). We lose a lot of people to disconnects on this boss.
    - TODO Vostigar events which tend to gather 40+ people and have been known to lockup occasionally

I'll do this after the patch. But it seems that Rift does not work well with ALC889 codec which is a default sound device on a lot of motherboards. I may also test with with a SoundBlaster X-Fi Falality PCI sound card and disable on-board audio, but this card is about 12 years old so may not be the best test, last driver update was in 2016. I may also go pickup a more modern sound card and try it. I may be on to something.

After testing rest of the week, the issue is with ALC889 and how Rift works with it. With Reverb enabled the crash is almost guaranteed within 30 minutes. Without Reverb it crashes once every few hours. Using G930 headset (which is also a USB sound card) has pretty much cleared up the crashes (except occasionally the sound would glitch for a second or two but quickly reset, which I suspect G930 is handling well while ALC889 does not).

I will look into buying another sound card like SB Audigy for $50 and disable the ALC889 on the motherboard as I don't want to play the game with headphones all the time. Not much else I can do at this point. Hopefully Audigy like G930 handles audio with Rift better.

I was unable to do a Temple of Ananke test yet, queued for normal for over 5 hours with no group. Queued for expert as tank and nothing after an hour... an hour waiting for expert 70 as a tank is pretty sad, I think it's time to add some Intel reward to doing instances so the game doesn't feel like a Vostigar farm and remove all that other useless currency... but I digress.

Are you getting a BSOD when it crashes? And if so, you can disable to the function in Windows that restart it automaticly, so you're able to reach the error message.

As for the soundcard, then I'm uncertain what to say. It's aaaaaages ago I've used a physical sound card in a PC. The onboard are fine for their purpose. I used Logitech G35 for a long time and are now using G430 (both are USB) and never had sound issues in games, when setting them as primary sound source. Reverb has always been enabled in Rift. I have speakers, but rarely use them, but they never put up issues when used.

Your DxDiag is showing 2 different audio sources? G330 and G930. Are both plugged in, or is it because you have drivers installed for both?
Memory leak could be related to software conflicts, if they are writing to same sector and something odd goes wrong. I'm just puzzle why the PC is struck so hard that Rift files are nuked in the process. That's serious stuff, since it seems the machine simply ain't "releasing" the config due to the crash, which usually ain't a problem if you do a regular hard reset.

Ultimately you say other games have no issues. Are any of those memory heavy? Like other MMOs?
I'd say it couldn't hurt to run a MemTest over the night if possible, just to control your RAM.
