Default can't play rift (direct 3d initialization error)

As title says, I cannot play Rift, I've tried multiple resolutions and still it doesn't work. I went onto the microsoft website to get the latest version of Direct x and it didn't change anything. I just got my new laptop today and now I wanna play Rift, someone help me please.

    My laptop config:
    Dell Inspiron 15 7537
    CPU: intel-core i7 4500u @ 1.8ghz
    RAM: 16gb
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 750m 2gb dedicated
    Windows 8.1

I had the same prob. Fixed it by adding -dx9 in the Glyph shortcut properties' Target box

    Mine looks like... "C:\Program Files (x86)\Glyph\GlyphClient.exe" -dx9

Apparently the game engine Trion uses requires DirectX 9

Windows 8.1 uses DirectX 11.2 but as Ivj999 pointed out, Rift uses DirectX 9.0c so you'll need to 'update' the 9.0c files and not 11.2.
