    Default Graphics performance issue

After the latest patch I noticed that my FPS is jumping all over the place and the game periodically gets really choppy.

I ran around Sanctum for a while trying to reproduce the issue and I noticed that it always happens when I approach a light source and then the FPS jumps back up as soon as I pass it.

Anyone else notice this? It seems to be new in this patch.

    Oh FFS, nevermind.

I just noticed that I didn't plug the power connector all the way into the laptop so it was running on battery power and probably running the CPU at a lower speed...

Quick question, hopefully on-topic. My better half uses a lappy from time to time to play Rift but it suffers from severe over-heating after an hour or so - do you play for a similar length of time and how do you overcome the massive heat build-up?

    Thanks in advance!

It's not easy to overcome heating problems with a laptop.

There are now items (I have no specific name) available that can be put below a laptop to draw the air out, but I don't know how good they work. Probably start Googling different things like "laptop overheating," I don't know lol, but I've seen these things advertised in the past 3-4 years.

The problem is that you only have a small space to put all the equipment in, so the number of fans you can put inside a laptop case is limited.

I bought an Asus G74Sx, which has the fans and exhaust openings of a Boeing 747. Problem solved. :-)

When I broke my foot and was stuck at home, I played once for 17 hours straight with no heat issues.
