Default Why is my frame rate so low?

    Hey guys,

I just bought RIFT a few days ago, and have noticed my frame rate seems really low, almost never going about 20 FPS on medium settings. Usually dipping down to 2-3 FPS during invasions or in Sanctum. I have no idea what could be causing this, and I have checked everything that I can think of. I am looking for any suggestions as to what needs to be upgraded. The specs of my setup are below, if any additional information would help, then just let me know and I'll post it asap.

    Thanks in advance!

    My specs are-

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
CPU: AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core Processor (2.21 Ghz per core)
    RAM: 6GB DDR2
Graphics: Radeon HD 5850 1GB Internal Memory
    Power Supply: 500W
    Hard drive: 35GB free space

Can you elaborate any more? I thought that was more than good enough to run RIFT at max settings?

You can play, sure as you've already found out. But 2.2Ghz is not going to do you any favours in Rift that's for sure. That processor is a HUUUGE bottleneck in Rift anyway. Going to need a lot more grunt than that if you want an enjoyable experience.

On the upside, your GPu is pretty good. So a cpu upgrade or overclock will net you a nice FPS increase.

So would, say, an i5 processor get me to max settings? What should I be looking at to get the most bang for my buck?

i5 750/60 will be good. However, it is required upon purchase to overclock it to 4Ghz. No getting out of it..

Alright, thanks for all of the help. I guess it's time to start looking into a new processor!
