Question Questions on IP address change

Just a few questions on IP address change.

1.) Why does you ISP change your IP address?
2.) How often does an IP address change?
3.) For this question I need to set a background so you can understand the question better. I work as a cashier. I get credit and debit cards often. I noticed that the first four numbers on a credit or debit card identify the bank the card belongs to. Here is the question. Are there any numbers in an IP address that identifies the physical address (home or apartment) that you are logging on from?

Google search answers your questions easiest.

    Happy to help:

    1. ISPs selling consumer based internet access use dynamic IP addressing for a number of reasons which include:

Keeping you from running a server

Using an IP pool smaller than their actual subscriber base

    2. It depends on th ISP and the "lease time" they give an IP assignment. Some ISPs have given leases for an IP as long as a year, many are at about 24 hours. However, many ISPs allow you to keep the same IP number over multiple leases- it depends on how they are setup.

    3. No. But there are database services based on ARIN data that provide geo-ip data. Also a reverse DNS lookup may sometimes identify the ISP, and therefor the country.

You can track an IP address to somebodies physical address by contacting the ISP (well, if you are the authorities ), most commonly just their local city is available online, unsure what the above poster is on about.

    http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/

    Example^
    IP Country: United States
    IP Country Code: USA
    IP Continent: North America
    IP Region: California
    City: Citrus Heights
    IP Latitude: 38.6929
    IP Longitude: -121.2903
