    Default Recovery Failed: Error 1012

Would love some feedback and information on how i can fix this issue. I thought i might give you a quick rundown on some history before i post the log file.

After about 2 weeks of playing Rift i noticed i was having some problems with my PC non Rift related, so i completely formatted it and reinstalled windows 7 and downloaded and reinstalled rift via the client download. Was not super happy about having to do this but what can you do i suppose?

I finally got around to patching it yesterday and i logged on and received a notice in game that i should attempt a recover. Seeing as i hadn't played in about 4 days i decided i would ignore it and play with my friends for a little while.

I woke up the morning to see a new patch had arrived so i downloaded it and ran the game. Everything ran fine, it loaded completely so i decided to exit out and do the recovery as i wasn't in any rush to play.

Turns out that was a really bad option. I get about 1/4 of way into he recovery and it completely freezes up, and in turn freezes a lot of other apps at the same time. Until eventually i get the error message:

"Recovery Failed Please try again in a few minutes Error 1012"

So i have spent the last 4 hours applying every fix that i have read about and still no way around this error.

I have noticed that heaps of people have, or have had this problem is there no solution from Trion as of yet?

    Here is my log file:

[Sun 13. Mar 13:04:11 2011] Failed to generate manifest for '.\'
[Sun 13. Mar 13:04:11 2011] Cannot recover at this time. Please try again in a few minutes. (Error #1012) (#1012, last message: Failed to generate manifest for '.\')

At this stage it's obvious there is a problem with manifext.txt. I was wondering if it might be possible to just use a manifest.txt file from someone else or download a current one that will allow me to paste it into the root directory and play?

    UPDATE:

I decided i might create a new manifest.txt file and leave it blank.

When i loaded the patcher client and click update (what i have been clicking usually) i no longer get the client trying to recover files and instead i am prompted to download the game from scratch again. Not really an option for me as it will be my 3rd download and install in the last billing month for me.

I did the same process and instead of hitting update button i hit recover and saw that every time you recover it deletes the manifest file.

UPDATE 2: Solution (well somewhat anyway) to Error 1012.

I decided to use a manifest file from my brother and it worked i was able to patch the game with today's patch and i was able to load and play. I did get a notification to recover so against my instinct i did. BIG MISTAKE.

If you do copy the manifest file from someone else and copy it into your directory my advice would be to ignore the recovery as it just goes back to the same 1012 error. But then again who knows what this may do in the long run.

I am not sure how stable it will stay or if the process will keep working for new patches. You may have to get the manifest file off a buddy every time a patch is due and after they have updated.

    RANT

Thanks to all the people that offered some help on this. I really appreciated all of the advice i got and its good to see that Trion is on top of all the errors people get trying to patch Rift.

OH WAIT....i never got any replies on this thread and no definitive solution from Trion on how to fix this problem other then uninstall and reinstall. Which is awesome for those that used the digital download and it's their third or fourth time having to do this.

Does support even exist for this game, 3 days wait times for in game support and little to no support within tickets and forums.

This would be a good general model to adopt.

Clients pay money to subscribe to a service >> Trion uses the subscription money and hires Support Staff > > Support staff help Clients with service faults and errors >> Clients enjoy the support they receive and continue to subscribe to the service >> And we are back at Step 1.

Pretty simple stuff really. Instead of hiring 5 guys to count the money you made in the first week, hire 5 guys to ensure it keeps coming in the door.

It's almost like you found your accepted levels of service policies in the bins behind where Age of Conan was developed.
