It will all depend on your play style i guess, for quality of life, can't go wrong with Gadgets, adds a lot of stuff to the game:

    Gadgets: http://rift.curseforge.com/addons/gadgets/

A DPS meter might be useful:

    Rift Meter: http://rift.curseforge.com/addons/rift-meter/

    Simple Meter: http://mods.curse.com/addons/rift/simplemeter

These are just a small sample, check out these links and browse to see what looks good for you

Gadgets has a ton of stuff in it, most of which I don't bother with, but it's worth having for a few little UI improvements.

KaruulAlerts is incredibly useful. You can create custom warnings based on a large number of conditions to help out in combat.

A meter is nice, but don't lean on it too heavily. Remember, if you're topping the dps but not doing your job (interrupts, movement, raid tasks, etc) you still fail.

Imhothar's Bags is also really nice. It can completely replace your bag ui (which I don't use), allow you to see all your characters' gear/bags/bank from any toon, lets you see what's in your guild bank (as of last time you opened it), and even modifies tooltips to show you how many of an item each of your toons has.The only thing not supported right now is shard vaults.

    Heh, I'm another returning player.

Is there a replacement for Click Box Healer? I loved that thing, but it hasn't been updated in 2 years.

Personally, I use Gadgets for their Raid Frames, you can also assign macros to various keys.

Other useful addons that I use are:

    Rift Meter: http://mods.curse.com/addons/rift/rift-meter
dps meter with lots of great features

    Minion Sender: http://mods.curse.com/addons/rift/minion-sender
for ease of sending minions on adventures (Rift's Minion UI is horrendous)

    King Boss Mods: http://mods.curse.com/addons/rift/king-molinator
if you raid, this is useful for raid boss encounters

    BiS Calendar: http://mods.curse.com/addons/rift/biscal
if your guild utilizes this to organize events

    KaruulAlert: http://mods.curse.com/addons/rift/karuulalert
useful for keeping track of DoTs, cool-downs, and missing buffs etc

    Roles: http://mods.curse.com/addons/rift/roles
to conveniently change gear sets and assigned karuulalert sets
