    Default Need help testing textures

    Hi,

As we don't have enough functionality to accurately overlay marks over the native Map frame at specific coordinates, I'm trying to write a map addon/library that would allow to mark PoIs to other addons (as known gather resources' coordinates, artifacts coordinates, quest givers, whatever you want...) while we wait for that functionality to be available through the API.

However, I'm having issues with the textures and would like to ask you for help to test this and see if you run into the same problems or they're because of my computer.

The addon loads the Telara map, splitted in 2304 texture tiles (256x256) to produce a full resolution map (16384 x 9216). The texture files are compressed in DXT1c format with mipmaps, and having all of them loaded and displayed on screen doesn't produce a high framerate penalty.

The problem I've found is that sometimes when I reload the UI (or call SetTexture while running the game) crashes my PC and it doesn't reboot until the motherboard/GPU power/temperature protection wears off (2 hours) or I manually reset the PSU.

However, I've monitored temperatures & voltages for my computer components and they don't show unusual high values neither before or after the crashes: temperature is around 35 ºC motherboard, 45 ºC processor, 50 ºC GPU, and the voltages are within their normal ranges.

I've stress tested the GPU & PSU for 3 hours (99% GPU load with random spikes to stress test the PSU, 90 ºC sustained GPU temperature) without the computer crashing nor producing artifacts that would point to them being faulty, and I'll test the RAM modules tonight to rule them out too. I'm running the latest stable drivers from my GPU manufacturer, and can post my system specs if you want, though this isn't a technical support request.

What I'd like you to help me with is downloading the addon, trying it, reloading the UI 10-20 times and seeing if it causes any issue in your computers. Please note the described behavior (crashing the pc) may be harmful to your computer, so don't do it unless you're totally sure you've understood the potential consequences and want to run the addon at your own risk. If this is against the Add-On Policy, please delete this thread.

The addon file can be downloaded from http://www22.zippyshare.com/v/66227188/file.html

So here is some of the data I got today.

    PNG
    Total Memory: 455,000 MB
    CPU:
    MapTest: 11%
Rift Addon System: 25% spikes while navigating the map
    Storage Size: 48.9 MB
    * Noticeably longer initial load time on login

    DDS
    Total Memory: 180,000 MB
    CPU:
    MapTest: 14%
Rift Addon System: 23% spikes while navigating the map
    Storage Size: 99.1 MB
One thing I also noticed was there an issue with some of the textures in Silverwood and Moonshade not loading correctly with the DDS files. This could just be an issue on my end, though they did load correctly with the PNG files.
