    Default Addon Screeen

Any chance we can get a Addon Version number in the Addon Screen and a Current or Out of Date text with the version number? This way we can tell if we need to check for an Addon update. For those of use who do not make Addons it would make it easier for us to know if we are current or not. Also maybe even have the Addon button Green for current/etc and Red for out of date.

Also for the UI/Addon Developer and ALL the Addon Authors thank you for you your time and hard work on these for the rest of use who like using them. All I can offer right now is a thank you and as soon as I can I would/will donate but until then, thank you so much.

You can click any addon in the list, and on the right, information in the addon's table of contents (toc) will be displayed, including name, author, version, environment (what version of Rift it was last tested and working with) and many other details, depending on what the author included.

Also, just like WoW, an older addon might work fine, with or without an update. Rift doesn't have a setting to load out of date addons, however. And just like WoW, the only way to know if an older addon still works is to load the game with it enabled.

Thank you for the response. I wrote this as I was not sure what is possible with the API or even if any of it was possible.

Are you able to have the Addon/s check automatically for updates or would you need an Addon installer/updater?

Er, I'm partially wrong, sorry. On the addons screen, it only tells you the author, addon version, and description.

In game, should someone write such an addon, you can get a lot more details, like what minimum version of Rift it is rated for, which could be higher. An addon written for 1.3, which is the earliest, could still work on 1.7 fine. The only way to tell is install the addon and load the game.

Addons cannot check for version updates, nor can they download updates if any exist. Eventually, it is a fair guess that some kind of inter-addon communication system is made available, and an author could code something like a message that says "Bob has version 3.4 of AdddonX. You have version 3.2, please update" but like I said, that kind of system does not exist. In any case you would see that message in game, and not in the addon screen.

You have two options. First, check either curse.com or riftui.com and see if there is an update, or you can use the Curse Client to check for updates. I'm not sure if RiftUI has updated Minion to check. Whatever the case, those updaters only check their respective DB, so if an addon exists on one and not the other, then you are back to checking yourself.

I tried Minion but it is only for WOW as far as I could tell. I did email them asking if they could/would include Rift.

    Thanks.

Note that, since release, we haven't made any major breaking changes that I'd expect to kill addons. We've changed a few undocumented minor things, but in general, anything released should still work.

Once we do - and I'm accumulating a list of things that will someday be changed - we'll add a "load out-of-date addons" checkbox.
