    Default What's the etiquette?

Just a question to make sure I am not the arse here. As a general rule I leave my PVP to default. Was over in EI partaking of the zone event and chasing that Dragon all over the Island. I charged over the steps into the next to last ruin and BAM Yellow everywhere. With Mobs pouring over the walls I didn't want to switch to the settings screen and hunt down the PVP off settings. So instead i single targeted and just did my best to keep from throwing an arrow in a defiant. We're supposed to be fighting a common enemy right?

As we charged out of the ruins for the final confrontation we hit several invasion forces coming up the hill. I multied. Sounds went off and I was flagged. Ohh well, we were now down to the dragon though, He landed and we charged in. I saw the AOE and backed up out of the range of it. Then suddenly I was dead. I knew the dragon didn't do it so I checked the log as I ghost ran back. Sure enough, Defiant Rogue had nailed me... A LOT. Not accidental. Not one or two, but a dozen hits. When I got back I got in a shot or two on the dragon. Then looked around for my friend and saw him engaged with another Guardian. I took artistic leave and assisted in finishing him off.

The question that arises is .... Should I be turning off my PVP default before partaking in EI zone events? I would have thought that since we were all fighting the same enemy that we should all be out of PVP mode for that fight at least.

While yes we're fighting a common enemy, if you take the risk of leaving your auto flag on you take the risk of being killed by any flagged Defiants. Same goes the other way.

Unless it's a predetermined agreement between two folks to not kill each other, red is dead.

They aren't red until they make the mistake of getting too close while I am multi-firing. Just yellow. On a PVP shard I would expect them to always be red or in some cases yellow. On a PVE shard I would have thought they would shut off the PVP so as to not allow accidental hits during a zone event where BOTH factions would be participating. If the standard default setting was "off" then this wouldn't be a question, the default isn't though. You are flagged PVP when you make a PVP action. Firing at an invasion with a multi-shot is simply that. I didn't mean to catch the defiant.

I could always just sit on the wall and get my 25 defiant quest done real fast

Ohh and P.S> I reiterate even when they turned red I stayed off them and returned to single target. I do however think that getting shot in the back while facing off against a zone boss was very poor sportsmanship as well.

I would say that if you are flagged and you "accidently" hit a couple they will deem you fair game, hey i might even target you on purpose if I had been hit with an arrow. I would assume at that point you are doing it on purpose and just decided to hit someone else first. If I am not attacked and do not see you actively hitting another defiant I would ignore your pvp flag for the most part though.

Hmm maybe I am not wording right.. I was not flagged but the standard default setting that you get in game is that you are not flagged PVP until you perform an action that is PVP and then there is a 5 min cooldown (if you don't perform any actions) I wasn't flagged but was just running standard and an AOE caught a player that was in the middle of the fight that WAS set to "always on" PVP.

I wasn't looking for a fight and really don't mind it, the most annoying thing about it is that once you get flagged PVP you can't be healed by the clerics in your group unless they too are flagged pvp. Even had I not been shot by an opposing player my odds went down because the heals suddenly stopped for me.

Ehh its ok. I thought about it. I am not turning mine off. I am just going to wait until zone events and rack up some favor.

I think that the problem here comes from the xfers from PvP-RP shards. (Add harsh comment to the PvP'ers in a PvE shard here). When I came to Faeblight everyone was unflagged at some people told me to do the same. So we can get "a fun PvE event". But- over the last few monthsI have seen more and more people being "yellow" all the time...

I admit it, I've killed some of them and got killed too when defending my friends but it's just ridiculous doing that in the mid of the last boss in EI/SS/IPP or Stillmoor!

I really want those flagged-all-the-time people to refrain from doing so in PvE events like major invasions. You already have your PvP rifts and all the time to walk around flagged, but please don't bother other people in a PvE shard for doing PvE stuff.

You have a setting you can change so you don't auto flag by mistake, if you don't use it you might flag and get killed, or you might kill some of the other guys, pve + pvp is chaos and chaos is fun.

Use your setting if you don't want to take part, but come on there is no polite way to kill somebody.

Just change your flag to off, that was my point in my first post. If you did not . . .and I end up being hit, I assume you either did it on purpose or have no idea how to change the settings in game, both situations I would probably attack you. I always have that setting turned to off, unless im specifically going to do pvp.

That is why there is an interface option to entirely disable flagging whatsoever. I have it on, because out-of-character I hate PVP outside of structured, objective-oriented group content (read: Warfronts) and in-character, my character is a pragmatist who's willing to work with anyone able to get over their dumb prejudices long enough to take on what actually needs killing (read: Ochrin's goons, or whoever at the time).

I like to assume the best in people, and that everybody is at least smart enough to have their characters take actions that they wish them to. As such if I see somebody flagged, I assume that they are flagged because they want a fight and I for one certainly am not so rude as not to give them that fight.

From a mechanics game point this game makes it incredibly easy to never be flagged for pvp combat if you wish.

I used to back off and not attack when I accidentally hit a yellow name and got flagged in zone events, but all it ever got me was killed by the player I hit, or all their friends. So now if I accidentally flag during a zone event I kill the person who flagged me, and every other red name I see.

Not to mention that if you are healing in the zone event parties you almost always HAVE to flag yourself....or there will be people who don't get healed......usually a tank. Personally, I do think that the default should be "always off" for any PvE server, so you have to flag on purpose. I've seen lots of times however, peoples names change color during the fight, and enough of them changing that there is no way that it was a accidental hit on someone.....it also seems to suspiciously happen towards the last 10% or so of the bosses health, leading me to belive that it was done on purpose for the sole reason of them accidentally getting hit and flagging someone so they and their friends can gang-rush them. As a side note, while I have seem quite a few Defiants so this....<which honestly, the whole tactic ****es me off no matter which side does it> it does seem to be predominately a Guardian thing to do, especially in Stillmoore.
