    Default Server Latency

Server latency has become progressively worse over the last couple of weeks to the point that invasions tonight are completely unplayable. Even simple things like the Auction House are taking numerous seconds to click different screens/items.

It might be said that the number of recent transfers to Faeblight are the blame, and if that is the case, can you please lock this shard from new transfers?

Does Faeblight need new hardware? What's going on Trion? We love the game, but we can't play open world content unless something changes.

High latency is often a problem on the user end. Make sure you're not downloading or running anything overly demanding while playing the game - or that there's not some other drain on your internet connection.

/agree I haven't seen this problem at all. I'm on the Guardian side. I have seen the server drop twice in the past 2 weeks for about 2 minutes each time... aside from that? I haven't seen any unplayable invasions.

the 100+ ppl at the invasions were all complaining. and my latency was sitting <60ms yet casts would take 3-4 seconds to hit. Trust me it's server side.

The issues you guys are seeing are issues that are server side, this isn't really a client side issue. During peak hours, and during a zone event (Ember Isle is notorious for this right now) the shard will begin to have response time issues. When you condense more than 500 people into a single scene beating on a single mob(zone boss), the server will have issues compensating for the resources required of the spike in traffic for that scene.

Behind the scene's (for as far as I can tell), the shard is sending you data for everyone's abilities used on the boss/mobs within your viewing range that you see on the screen. In addition, when massive AOE's hit people - this sends out a MASSIVE bandwidth spike. Once this occurs, the CPU's for the shard become quite stressed, which is why people are seeing the massive warping of NPCs/Players, abilities taking upwards of 15 seconds to properly hit the mob and so forth.

Considering that Rifts and Invasions are the main selling point of this game, Trion should probably consider upgrading their hardware to compensate for so many players being in the same place at the same time. Isn't this what they wanted in the first place? For massive amounts of players to work toward a common goal?

Some of our raiders were experiencing input lag during our HK run last night as well. If it truely is server side, wouldn't the whole raid be experiencing the same delays?

It's server side - my latency is consistent at 60-80ms. Evenings EI, Meridian, etc lag to the point that it takes 3-6 seconds for things to register - sometimes longer.

Overpopulation of the server is not helping the situation...

I average around 60-80ms, which is pretty good considering I'm east coast and the shards are in a west coast based data centre if I remember. But considering that, I do notice it can spike above 100ms when there are a lot of people. They did make some software side optimizations recently to help with the lag in capital cities, but it seems like Faeblight needs a hardware upgrade with the closing of the other RP shards and all the new comers as a result. Probably putting a real strain on it.

Latency at 63ms and 2-3 second ability lag is not my computer's problem.

Everyone seems to leave out the most important part in all of these types of Discussions... the middle man... that's right. Your friggin ISP. You could have the BEST gaming Rig and Trion could have the BEST server equipment, but if your Internet provider bounces your signal around to 15 different hubs (which is the case more often than not)... there's nothing you OR trion can do about Latency.

no. That would be if your ping is bad. If you have ping around 60ms and lag is happening its the server who cant send out data fast enough, ie. process the data fast enough. Most times its the database filling up and beginning to queue processes, this stacks up until the database crashes (not yet happening, but the server lag is a sure sign for it happening soon being even more processes the database stacks up.)

I don't pay attention to latency - delays/lag in execution of commands to what the server does - that I notice at times and today it got ugly for a bit so I asked in 50's chat and there were numerous replies that others were experiencing it.

It happens from time to time but when you ask and several others are also experiencing it and a good portion within the same area of the game (Ember Isles) - that tends to make one think something is up and not with my system nor with my ISP -- internet could be a problem area or simply the game servers are stressing a bit.

When part of the game world is lagging and other parts aren't - that doesn't point so much at "internet" nor ping, etc but to an internal server issue and I suspect the downtime we're getting may be part of addressing it but I can't say for certain.

The fact is when we have thirty of so people all complaining at the same time during an event which I was reading last night in chat there is a problem with the server. People do not come here and complain in bulk due to it being their ISP but because it is uncommon and server lag.
Last night was so bad I had to abandon the event, I have never had to do this before. My connection to my ISP was fine. If this keeps up I will have to leave the server which I would very much not like to have to resort too as it is an extreme solution to my problem.

On a side note not everyone lives in America. The European, Asian market is being hit very hard by this server lag and it is not conducive to Trion to not fix the problem.

This is definitely server latency. I've been on 3 shards now and been playing since beta and have not once had an issue until now. My internet has not changed, it holds steady at my max speed, and I have a bandwidth monitor that watches where and how much is being uploaded or downloaded at any given time. Ever since Trion forced people to migrate onto a condensed number of shards, there has been issues with lag during peak times. You'll notice the lag is the worst during peak hours when the shard is near full capacity or at full. And for sure the invasions in Ember Isle. My latency in game never goes above 95ms... even during those times when I get those bad lag spikes. Last night on Akylios, the waves for instance, which usually move beautifully (even though they are still a pain in the butt), lost their solid movement and jumped/jerked across my screen a couple times. It was like they were teleporting, or like those people you run into during an instance or WF. The ones that you can tell have obvious lag on their end. They seem to blip all over the place rather than having solid movement. There was also the horrendous casting issues I was having throughout the whole of the instance.

If you aren't noticing the lag, you may not be playing during the shard's peak times. Or you may not be in an area of high traffic. And if you are in your major city searching the AH, hitting a target dummy, opening up your bags, or even running around on a full speed mount without noticing any lag issues at all during these peak hours, well then I guess your just lucky. The servers can only handle so much. At full capacity there is a lot more information that has to be received from and sent out to all the clients, and this is where they are bottlenecking and you're noticing the lag.
