Learning the Role Play Ropes.. Welcome to a new aspect of gaming!

Over the course of the last year I have been privileged enough to have met a variety of players from every aspect. To say that one aspect is better than another is not my goal here. I have been gaming, both table top and online, for over twenty years. I enjoy playing every aspect with equal enthusiasm - from endgame raiding - climbing the PvP ranks - and immersing myself in the Role Play community.

There has been a lot of questions both in game and on the forums about Role Play, what it really is and how to do it. I am not going to say I am the end all when it comes to information, but I would like to offer myself as a resource for both new and old players alike.

I will be hosting a weekly lore event on Tuesdays at 3 pm. Because lore is not exclusive to one side or another, I feel it would be rude to not make it accessible to both factions. This is the time to explore your RP curiosity, show your abilities, as well as make in character contacts!

I do want to point out that because there can sometimes be some unwelcome grief from players who enjoy trolling, if it becomes an issue I will alternate from Guardian and Defiant side each Tuesday and hold the events in a "marriage" instance if need be, however the guest list will be limited to 200 at that time and can only be based on faction.

Until this becomes a problem those who do contact me with their interest in participating will be notified via PM on these boards the location of the event.

I might be able to make it, although I'd be late arriving since I don't get out of work until 2:30 server time and have a 45 minute drive. I could really use the Lore info as i feel that's what I'm lacking for my RP backround etc.

Anybody else notice Laeris knows where all the best bars are ?

For those who are curious I thought I would drop a few names of some guilds that have active role players, though not all are RP focused.

Defiant -

Magitech Guild (Not sure if they are still out and about. Very unique RP.)

Sedition - Close knit group that has a very specific focus in their guild storyline.

Phoenix Vanguard - Great laid back group, always helpful to new folks.

Immortal Rose - I believe their regular haunt is in the Stonefield Inn.

Bitter Hearth - They hold weekly story telling events on Thursdays.

Petals of Mariel-Taun - Fun group, if I recall correctly they are members of the 13th Legion.

Leaves on the Wind - Also a close group, they have some really great role players.

Arcanum Literati - Laid back group, they have a fantastic story line and hold a variety of events.

La Nostra Famiglia - Sweet bunch of talented Role Players.

Silver Spike - Tight knit group of Role Players, they are somewhat low on the radar, but very cool folks.



I am sure that there are plenty of other guilds out there that I didn't mention, just the ones I could think of off the top of my head. If you want more info on them just click the names above to go to their guild websites.

If you are new to Role Play or looking for some folks to have some fun with I would encourage you to introduce your character to anyone with those tags.

Thanks for the mention. Our formal name known publicly is the "Thirteenth Sanctuary Guard Legion of Mariel-Taun." Our informal name, "the Petals" refers to our own adaptation of the lore as showing Mariel-Taun as carrying a bouquet of flowers... and the members of the legion are each a petal in her bouquet.

I am in the process of gathering the list of names for the event on Tuesday, 3 pm Shard, I will add you to this list and let you know the location by Sunday night.

In the meanwhile - the RP crowd is always welcoming, and I know that Nietzsche of the Arcanum Literati does In Character story telling every week to introduce tidbits of lore. I am not certain but I think on their guild site they list their events - I just know I happen across them a lot at the Chancel of Labors library and he is really knowledgeable about the RIFT Lore. The guilds I mentioned earlier in this post I have seen them not only help new players but also help new role players so don't be shy!

That is good to hear. I just now made it to the Chancel of Labors yesterday when I reached 40. I will have to take a look.
