Default What makes Faeblight so amazing?

    I'm being serious here.

I feel one of the most positive things we have here on our shard is the generosity of people. Characters like Remissus doing new player gifting. There have been other players helpful to new folks on the shard, which makes them feel at home right away.

Another positive attribute we have is our comradeship among guilds. There is some competition but it's a healthy competition and people aren't bad mouthing one another's guilds!

    Just my 2 cents worth

I have to agree with you on the generosity. It's probably the only shard on Rift to do this for random players. Probably put a smile on a lot of peoples faces when they chose to come here.

Forum community here is good! This is really the most I've ever participated in any game forum. In game, I'm going to give RP a whirl with Remissus' 17 Advance Sanctuary Guard Guild. Never would have done that had I not gotten a chance to know folks here on the boards. Got some good RP advice here as well. Coming from Estrael, the community was good, but population was quite low. I know we're going through some growing pains with the influx here, but I consider it a good thing. 99% of the people are helpful and fun to hang out with. I can live with a few goofs in the crowd (Ignore- it's amazing, there's some Real Life people I wish I could do that with!). I'm enjoying the game much better since coming to Fae.

Most of the people are good people. There is a level of respect among most guilds. You can find something to do at most hours of the day. People of faeblight are pretty smart compared to the general population I've experienced in other servers.

You know as I sit here and think about this qusetion, I always come back to the same thing. Faeblight is a home. A community. To so many of us who want to break free from the everyday rift raft of the real life world. I've never played an mmo on a server that so many were willing to work together to get something done. Yeah, we have trolls. Yeah, we have elitest. For the most part though, we have guild who work together, PUGs that are something like 6/11 in HK (maybe more), we have community events that include both Defiants and Guardians.

I'll never forget what it was like after moving Mika's Furrie Den over to Faeblight from my old shard a month or so before the shard shut downs. I first came into contact with Olora and was shown probably the most kindess from a random mmo player ever. She taught me one big thing if anything in the short while I knew and talked to her. Kindness. I've been opening up myself to help so many others learn fights in raids, gear specs, even possibly carrying some people through the lower level 20 mans. I'm not the only one who does this nor was I the first but it -is- a first for me to be on an mmo that so -many- work together. Even from guild to guild.

All that being said, Faeblight is my home. I can find the craziest players and the kindess of players. If I say I need help with something I 'pop' a message in 50s chat and can get help no matter what. I feel that personally....I dont even remember my old shard anymore. Faeblight is a kingdom compared to what my old shard was before. I , for one , hope things never change.

    Okay, I'll stop rambling now!

Aww thats sweet, It's good to see that some of the transfers have felt at home on Faeblight. I have always found it to be a wonderful place to play, I rarely run into a person that causes me stress, and the few that do go straight to ignore. On some shards there are just to many trolls to do that but here they seem to be far and few between. Good people > trolls :P

I too am a transplant, I came from Estrael. My guild <Family> moved shards about 2 weeks before the shutdowns of the other RP shards.

Ever since day one on Faeblight I have felt a sense of home too, a sense of oneness and familiarity although I was anything but familiar on my new shard. I look forward to logging on and being able to help new players or someone that is working on a spec or gear. It feels good to know I can be counted on to not be a troll and give back to my MMO community.

Players generally are helpful and willing to share their knowledge making it more of friends chatting vs elitists blowing smoke up your a@@.

    This shard rocks!

One of my favorite things about faeblight is that it is a pretty self-sustained environment. We police ourselves a lot and set each other straight when we need it. If someone, or a group, isn't welcome they know it very quick and usually either leave or just vanish into the twilight. Also, I like to think Trion knows about our community and we are their favorite server.

When I first started on Rift launch day, everyone was so helpful and my groups were pretty awesome.

Now that I've come back after many months, it seems the community is still very helpful, have answered all the questions I had and helped me out, and I am having a great time. This is what sets Faeblight apart for me and makes this game so enjoyable.

Sadly the policing you talk about no longer really happens, it used to but now I see more and more of the kind of global chat which used to be policed picking up steam. On the Defiant side Level 50 chat has been degrading rapidly since around a month before the forced shard transfers kicked in.

Now, don't get me wrong, Faeblight is still a fantastic shard with some of the friendliest and most generous players you'll meet anywhere, however there is a small but extremely vocal minority who have come here and started to 'adapt' the Level 50 chat to how they used to have it on their old shards which is making it feel less and less like Faeblight for those who have been here longer.

I don't think there is anything we can do about it, Faeblight will never be the small close-knit community it was before this happened. All we can do is adapt and continue to try show the newcomers how to behave, some will follow suit and some wont, but we still have it better than most other shards.

So back on topic, what makes Faeblight so amazing, it's still the people. Clasp the good for all it's worth and hold onto it tight, take the bad with a pinch of salt and ignore it as best as possible. Keep up the generosity, friendliness and generally welcoming atmosphere to new players and it will always remain the best.

Any growing family will have its teething problems, all we can do is our best to minimize them.

It's the people for me, as well. I came from Wolfsbane, which I was on for 3 months last summer, and then I quit. After coming back, I decided to transfer to the only rp server left for NA. In the other 2 games that I played with RP servers (lotro and wow), the people of the RP realms have almost always been nicer, more mature, and more welcoming to people (old and new). They don't rage at people who ask a question, especially those that ask a question that has been answered multiple times before.

Unfortunately, there are always some bad people that have to spread their rot into the surrounding good apples. But overall, the people have been nice, understanding, and pretty generous. I plan to make Faeblight my permanent home on Rift.

This sounds a bit more like a clique. "If you aren't welcome, you better leave."
Not saying that this is your intent, but that this has occurred in the past with some members.

How many times have I seen someone in 50 chat get outright bullied by other people for complaining about Tokuzi trolling them in 50 chat? All the while Tokuzi actively trolling them? Of course he hasn't been doing such a thing recently, he's just done it by sending some nasty whispers recently.

If anything, I see more people tending to go LOLOLOL ITS JUST TOKUZI or someone such as Guru going along with the insulting? Or other people in 50 chat endorsing it?

How many times have I seen nasty little things being said about people in 50 chat knowing full well they are not in a position to defend themselves?
Or other things being spread down the grapevine about that person to another guild?

Or getting outright bashed when they make a complaint about some part or another of the game? Called a baddie and all this other stuff? I've seen the PvP newbies get ripped apart in 50 chat by the same people.

How about the whole issue with Fires of Heaven? Where nasty things were being said? Where almost no one was defending the group? To the point that they were essentially forced to leave due to the incredible animosity they were receiving from BOTH faction sides?

There is a reason 50 chat doesn't really see many new voices and that it tends to be the same old people.
New people just...don't want to deal with it, and many of the older residents make it a habit to ignore 50 chat unless they need to get a raid organized.

That isn't policing or straightening things out, nor should one be trying to force people to leave or fade from 50 chat in annoyance they'll have to deal with drama.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying this is the entirety of the community.
I am saying however, that such cases tend to occur from the most vocal parts of the community and can over shadow the really good parts.

Vendetta, Gaiscioch, Aegis, Kinetic, Family, Play Nice, Temperal Insurgance, Frontliners are guilds that are willing to help those new to faeblight.
People such as Opaaline, Suteex, yourself and a few others are all very willing to help people out in the community.

It is just that if there is any policing going on, it isn't being done well publicly. Particularly in 50 chat which is a popular means of communication, despite how many people tend to view it as entertainment.
The best parts of the community tends to get overshadowed by the very vocal parts that tend to be a bit nasty.
