With 1.7 there is a new feature to hop right into a PVP war front without the traditional wait of several minutes, this may sound good however it is a bit odd how it's done. I play on Guardian side of things and I queued for Port Scion on my cleric and I was fighting with the Defiant against Guardians. Needless to say some of my friends from the guardian side were killing me over and over. They must have thought it to be funny.

Got a few whispers asking if I'm now on the defiant side, yup I am as the only cleric dwarf there is!

Once you head down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. And you get dental.

I really hope they turn this into a option to queue as a mercenary. I know some people are already complaining about getting placed on the opposite faction. Personally I'd be merc for life!

Honestly, I would have no issue with this were it something you could CHOOSE. But having to play PvP on the side of the Defiant, despite my character's IC feelings about them, irks me to no end.

My inner Role-player's spirit can ignore a lot, but this in particular picks at me.

Maybe the reason they do not give options as Mercenary mainly for a fair match (almost).

Example : I could que as Mercenary and did nothing while my real faction win it all.
Worse if i'm a Healer queing for Mercenary.

This happen in GuildWars 1 where Monks (Healers) que for the opposite faction and never heal a single soul till match ends. And he never got attacked by his Guildmates ofc.
And they took turns doing it.

Thats why its not an option i guess.

But this can easily happen whether we can choose or not. In fact, I guarantee this will happen. People take the OOC faction lines too seriously. >_>

When I PvP I put on my OOC hat, belt, shoes, and underpants. Laeris, ICly is about as non-violent as a person can get. She has some personality issues that can cause conflict... but she isn't the type that would be seen as a combatant. She's RP'd as a frail, girly-girl stereotype. Big Bahmi with a big club = Laeris pudding every time.

So, when I PvP or do dungeons... I don't RP. I use a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief and just do the content and have a good time. I'm not saying all people should do this... but for me, it makes it so that I don't have to run around the Codex squealing ICly (because that's what she would likely do)

I do think it's a bit ridiculous to expect people on an RP server to just roll with fighting for the opposite team. We've spent all this time trying to justify fighting them in the first place (since we kinda have to) and now we have to fight with them? WTF???

I'd rather wait the extra min or two for a fight against the "bad guys" then to fight for them, or even against my own faction members! Just saying...

I didn't get the card in the mail for the dental benefits, do I need to bug Asha?

Not sure how I feel about this. How do you get faction points with the Noble Guard while you're fighting against them in Port Scion or complete the repeatable quests in that Warfront. Just an example of course. After fighting some of these people in the Defiant (and getting steamrolled by some of the Rank 8s) I'm not real fond of them. Makes me a bit conflicted about fighting with them as a teammate.

Technically, when you're in a warfront, you're no longer on and RP server, you're just from an RP server.

But honestly that's the best devil's advocate that I can come up with and it is tenuous at best.

Sadly I doubt they can put an option for merc on/off in there without it leading to abuse. I'd still like it though. I have no interest in fighting for the Guardians.

Well, if they put that option in, it will render null and void every change they made in 1.7 that addresses queue times and WF competitive fairness levels. We'd just end up having 10 L40 Defiants queue up non-Merc and sit there waiting to faceroll a merced out PuG as what has been going on for almost a year.

I generally don't view Warfronts as an RP scenario for the simple matter that they just don't have consequence. It doesn't matter if Defiants win or Guardians win - we'll all be back there shortly enough! I believe if there's one thing that defines what RP is, it is consequence.

So, much like Laeris, I'm only there in the OOC sense! That's not to say that your character could never be part of a battle in Port Scion or Whitefall - but I don't think the specific instances of PvP are good reflections of any sort've battle. They're there to fulfill episodic, non-persistent PvP requirements as a gameplay mechanic.

I think it would be pretty easy for them to add basically a check box to hit if you do not want to queue as merc. I don't see how anyone from a non-RP stand point would really care, but the daily quest thing does bring up a good point. Do we have an answer to that?
