I guess my only complaint is, if we have to bat for the other side...do we have to slaughter our families while we are at it?

I admit fully and apologize to the guardians I was with yesterday, but I stood there and took the ROFLStomp they tossed out without casting.
I have brothers, and we have totally whupped each other (all in fun of course) at one point or another. Who else would you practice your WCW moves on? Just look at like that and give your Guildies the requisite Dusty Rhodes Bionic Elbow!!

How 'bout noogies? wedgies perhaps? You can apologize to them after they pull the underwear out...they'll still like you. They might even laugh about it

Never use the word "exponentially" unless you know what it is that you're implying. My queue times do not rise exponentially with respect to the number of non-mercs. That's silly.

What goes up is the number of players who will be merced. So if they add an "opt-out", I suspect the people who don't will end up mercs much, much more often.

If people were allowed to do whatever they wanted, we'd end up with the system we just got rid of. One side in a pool 2-3x larger than the other and slower queues for everyone.
You're being binary about this for no reason. Having mercs, but only those who are OK with being mercs will not be the same as having no mercs. Stop painting the situation as completely black-and-white.

The stragglers joining while a match is in progress still have to wait 15 minutes or so until the match clears before they can get in because there's a longer time to wait before another team is filled.
If there were only one PvP match going on at any given time, that would be true...

This has only happened to me once where a guildie was on the opposing team. The whole time we were just hitting each other at codex going "lol sorry lol sorry.." it was so funny.

But seriously, if you're just going to stand there and not participate, PLEASE LEAVE THE WARFRONT. Take your 15 minute time out because you gave up. Why should everyone else suffer because you refuse to support the team you're on? It's rude and disruptive. Also, there is nothing to take personally when participating in a warfront. They're like, a 5 - 10 minute long recess. It doesn't change anything if you win or lose, aside from getting some prestige/favor. Relax and have fun.

Your guildies shouldn't have a problem facing you in WF's.
If they wine about it, then they need to evaluate things.
Have fun knocking them around since its all in good sport.

Eh, the Merc system sucks from my side of things. It didn't speed up my queue times, they're still popping as fast as they ever did. The only thing that's changed for me is now I lose a lot more.

Give em heck is all I can say. The merc role is a good thing for lessening the que times and it should not be held against anyone. That being said I myself dropped out of PVP for a bit. Just run the dailies to save for gear and run adventures so I can fill that PA for war. But when I was merc'ed I had no trouble aiming for a winged helmet.. All I saw was red lettering and that's all the incentive I needed to press the buttons.

Ok, now you tell me what happens if a majority of people "opt out." Then, tell me how that would be different than pre 1.7. The whole "opt out" thing is similar to politics. Lots of people will vote to change something so long as they believe it doesn't affect them. AKA: "Allowing mercs to opt out won't change much because not many people will use it. It won't affect my queue times and I won't have to play on the other team anymore."

The reality is, if enough people opt out, the situation would be like this: "Allowing mercs to opt out is making things change because too many people are opting out. It is affecting my queues and affecting everyone else's queues because all of the server's Guardians are opted in because they keep getting steamrolled by our non-merc team premade. The Defiants don't want to lose so they opt out. This stinks because on a server this size with this much of a huge population imbalance in this warfront cluster, people would rather farm victories than pvp for fun. Our queues are back to being 20 minutes to an hour between pops. The Guardians are PvPing with the few Defiants who are opted in for mercs and the rest of us who are "pro PvP" players in premades can't get a match. WTF WTF WTF. This is no good, Trion needs to do something."

That's the system you're lobbying for FYI.

I am actually in favor of the Merc system. I can easily suspend any RP feelings when I pvp, however rare that is. The biggest reason I like it is the rare time when I get placed on the opposite faction's team, I actually get a win. I just wonder if they will transfer this over to their dungeon queue system. Then again, dungeons aren't as chaotic as warfronts, so that might not happen.

When I pvp or enter another type of queue, RP mode shuts off.

Although I'm not adverse to a dungeon merc system... I don't think it is needed. Queue times are fairly quick... even when I queue as a lone DPS these days (Guardian side anyway).

I would SOOOOOO kill you over and over Bren, and like Briz says it would be easy just go dps for me :P I would say that if anyone joins a WF and does not want to participate because of the merc system . . . please leave. Its not fair to your team to have to deal with an afk player basically.

Well, it would be more useful for the lower level queues, possibly. I see a lot of people complain that they are waiting an hour plus as a lone dps. But I don't really think it would be needed. That, and you would possibly have some serious trolls that hate the other faction, and they wouldn't really want to help because they think people who play the opposite faction of their's is a lesser person.

Ya, I've said this before on the forums: I have no faith in humanity on the internet. Given a reason to act a fool, they will act a fool.

Still, the reason you won't see this is because Defiants and Guardians have different quests in the dungeons and different achievements in some cases. I'm a horrible programmer... but I know enough about it to know that an easy fix to bringing these two types of players together is likely a real pain in the watoosie.
