Pfft, when I played wow, I used a different e-mail adress, a hotmail one. Only later did I change it. Even now, I get about 12 emails every week on that old adress, from Blizzard spitting threats at me, some of which are in a horrible english.

I get **** like that from blizz every week and the only blizz games I play are SC2 and Diablo. Never even had a trial account in Wow ;) But then again, that adress has been floating around the net for well over a decade now, so I'm surprised it doesn't get more spam

    Quite a few misconceptions here.

This is an inherent problem with e-mails, due to the way the whole system works. I could send you an e-mail and make it look like it came from Blizzard, Trion, or your mother. There are ways around this problem, for example SPF and DKIM, and Blizzard uses both.

Not true. Unfortunately, e-mails are routinely sold to the highest bidder from sites with a lack of morals, harvested by malware, or simply conned out of people who don't know better. Accusing someone of gold-buying just because they get spam is a non sequitur.

Again, it's not from Blizzard--chances are that e-mail that looks suspicious isn't from them. Again, SPF and DKIM can help you tell for sure.

    DKIM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DomainKeys_Identified_Mail

Oh, and common sense usually applies as well.

@Aenathel: I assume they did not really think that these mails came from Blizzard itself, just from a Blizzard-fake.

@email: Companies usually don't threat that way and write in proper English.

A fair assumption, but one that I have seen not to be true many times. In any case, I felt like clarifying--other people who read the topic might not be as astute as yourself.
