    Default Reporters & Editors Ahoy!

    'Ello.

I know most of us are joined on that awesome roleplaying portal, but let's make the most of it!

If editors could whack their name in the thread below, I'll amend it - mail these people in game with your news, or get in touch if you're setting up an event you want to share! I know the community is still shaping up, so let's give it a nudge with all the weird and wonderful things that happen to your characters.

Indeed we lack Defiant editors - roleplaying seems a bit more scarce on the Defiant side at the moment, although I've seen people roleplay by the tree in Meridian every day. Defiant editors would be great as we'd get to find out about good roleplaying spots and news from the defiant side.

So if anyone feels like he's up to to the task (and has some talent with words), please use the contact form on the website to get in contact with me.

    Thanks,

If people aren't sure of the direction of things, this is the roleplaying portal for a WoW realm. Pretty much everything on there is IC, barring the FAQ - all reports, posts, bios, the lot.

I'd say you lack editors in general. A quote from your front page:
It's so interesting how much you can attach to your character's. Sometimes you feel their emotions and you can really connect to them.
Attach to your character's what? Butt?
Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.

It's not my project, I'm just trying to let people know it's out there - we do lack editors, and a team in general to run it for the roleplayers.

    @Kreiri :

How very perceptive of you. People make mistakes. No one pretended to be a professional.

    @Akamhara:

The thing with the WoW portal (argent archives) is that they have a guild roleplaying a newspaper agency that's taking care of the site. We don't have something like that and as far as I know we don't have anyone roleplaying reporters either. So in order to avoid metagaming, some articles must be written from the perspective of a third-person omniscient narrator, rather than from the characters' perspective, from the way I see it.

Yeah we do miss a team. Eleisae was the first to take the initiative and write some articles. So kudos to her. She asked me before posting if she should keep it OOC or IC, I told her it's ok to do both for now. So it's my mistake. We'll keep it in a more IC fashion then, as much as possible. I see she has taken the article off the site.

If any guild/people volunteer to take care of the project, I'd be happy to give them administrator rights to moderate content and such. My initial idea was not to write any articles or involve too much in the roleplaying bits, just to provide and improve the tools.

    Cheers

Certainly appreciated on the newspaper team, and I'm trying to be more helpful in terms of getting things to post - and letting people know it's there, nothing else. We have a lot of new roleplayers on the shard who don't know what they might put, or how it might look - was just a suggestive link for how it can work as an active tool to further roleplay.

Just to drop my two cents on the IC/OOC stuff, I would prefer to see the articles be an IC thing only.
Mainly because this entire forum really is already taking care of everything OOC. Secondly because I don't think we need reporters as such to comment on other peoples roleplay oocly, it only creates a loop for people to be able to - if but subtly - spread their opinions of certain people or groups, which only inspires to drama which is something I presume we all hate with a burning passion.
Alternatively, if any OOC stuff should end up as a front page article, that I think should be reserved for promoting ground-breaking developments in terms of RP-tools (such as the RP-addon) and events that are open to the entire server (with or without faction restrictions) - in a spotlight type of thing.

Whilst I do use the Argent Chronicles extensively to share my writing, I have been at a loss of what to post using my editor position. It is a great service and I'm sure the other editors that are more creative than myself can make full use of it!

I love it and can only encourage more people to join in, it's really added to my enjoyment of the game these last two months and the people who hang out in riftrp.

My spiritual guide (Enoch) is compiling a lot of information for dwarves so much so he has been neglecting his martial duties somewhat..... it's very disconcerting to see a dwarf writing so much... i don't know who to blame... time spent in the soul stream I guess...

I really like the Argent Chronicles site and I would want to help out if I could. But the truth is that other then posting my chars diary there I wouldn't really know what to do or what other people would expect to find/want to see there.

Regarding what to write in an article, some ideas (written in an IC fashion):

    - good places to roleplay in
    - reports on events
    - spotlights on upcoming events (providing more information about what is expected from people participating, even if it means writing it more OOCly)
    - spot on type of articles (describing the various cities and people of telara)
    - reports on world events
    - describing what various people/guilds are up to in the community, in order to encourage and direct people to where to find roleplaying

Also, if anyone wishes to write articles about specific bits of the lore of Telara, but is missing some information that can't be found in game or on the official website - send your questions to me and I will forward them to the RIFT developers.

I'd say let your imagination run riot, a diary is all well and good if you have the time but think about other ways people might put pen to paper so to speak.

A Letter, a pamphlet or as I (Enoch) have been working on, my very own religious treatsie :-), hmmmm maybe I'll pen a sermon .....

Would it also be possible to make a report or something with fictional characters or NPC's that are in a certain place to report or comment on certain RP things that happened somewhere?

Since my character herself isn't really, how would you call it, suitable for writing reports such as that but the fictional characters or NPC's would be perfect for that.

Well yeah, as I was saying we don't have anyone actually roleplaying reporters. So writing from a fictional character's perspective looks like a valid idea. I'm curious how that would work out (added editor rights to Lillyeth).

I'm not sure I understand how it could be written from an npc's perspective though. But perhaps if it's not an important npc, so it wouldn't break the lore, it might work (possibly a merchant, or a guard?).
