About the names on Argent[Important]

I'm fairly confident that anyone who moved or created their characters on this server was aware that it was an RP-server.

Lately or well... always, now and then I notice someone with a very -interesting- name. This name however, does not fit into rp in any sense or way and is most of the time just some gibberish because someone couldn't come up with a somewhat decent name or was just to darn lazy to use the "Random name generator"

It's not that difficult people, to just maybe google "Fantasy names" or maybe ask someone with creativity to come up with your character's name.

Pro-tip(allthough very time-consuming): Shift over to a new server. Make a new character on your previous server(The one you will move back to after your free char-transfere is active again) and name it your other character's name(The name of the character that will move back) and that character will be forced to change it's name to something else. Take this as an opportunity to change the name of your character to something more fitting the RP-style of this server.

For all of you who don't know (Even though you should) there are actually a few rules concerning your character's names.

Comprised of partial or complete sentence (e.g., "Getpwned", "Luvtodance", etc);
Comprised of gibberish (e.g., "Qwerty", "Asdfasdf", "Xyzpdq");
Referring to pop culture icons or personas (e.g. "McLovin", "Kyle Broflovski", "Catwoman");
That utilizes "Leet" or "Dudespeak" (e.g., "Roflmao", "Roxxurboxx", "Lolzumad");
That incorporates titles. For purposes of this subsection, "titles" shall include without limitation 'rank' titles (e.g., "General Chow," or “Captain Kangaroo”), monarchist or fantasy titles (e.g., "KingLoko", "LordPauleyC"), and religious titles (e.g., "ThePope," or "Reverend Run").

You may not use a misspelling or an alternative spelling to circumvent the name restrictions listed above, nor can you have a "first" and "last" name that, when combined, violate the above name restrictions. Utilizing any name option to harass or disrupt another individual, group or guild will result in disciplinary action taken with respect to the offending account(s) and may result in character deletion. Accounts which have characters deleted due to a violation of this policy are not eligible for reimbursement privileges.

Each user will either select a character name or allow the Service to automatically select a character name at random. Additionally, users may form "guilds" and such guilds will be required to choose a name for the guild. When you choose a character name, create a guild, or otherwise create a label that can be seen by other players using the Game or the Service, you must abide by the following guidelines as well as the rules of common decency. If Trion finds such a label to be offensive or improper, it may, in its sole and absolute discretion, change the name, remove the label, and/or suspend or terminate your use of the Service.

It would suck if someone had to be banned because their name was not fitting, do yourself a favor, change your name and avoid risking ban.

I can only second all of the above. I never understood why lollers would roll on a RP server. It won't harm to be considerate.

On the one hand, I can appreciate the irritation at names that are in contravention of the EULA, though I personally have never clicked a report button.

Why?

Simple. RP is all about immersion and emoting and creating an atmosphere for others to interact in - how many times have you explained to new people "don't assume what you can see on the tag - Bob is blind, or has multiple tattoos" or "Just because it says Mathosian, don't assume I'm not a half-Ethian rebel from another tribe, my good man".

Similarly, new people might come up to you and go "Hello Bob, I can read your mind, I know all" - and after a brief moment of "Oh boy", you'll explain how your name is pixellated only - how it may have no bearing on the RP itself, how no one knows your name, how your name could be an homage of Gandalf Eddard al'Thor, but in-character, your avatar prefers to be known as Jim - James, if you're not a friend.

Since this involves using selective blindness for the majority of RPers I encounter anyway - even those using pseudonyms or whatnot, I don't see the big earth shattering problem, neither will I report someone - if anything, it lets me know not to bother with that fella.

Knowing this problem very well, with the "Buxxurloxx-something" names and all, i can only agree with Raahh's opinion.

I don't see why, that a non-RPer should enter an RP server. Is it because people are more mature on RP servers (Which is true)? In that case, you yourself should be mature enough, to have just a speck of consideration, and choose a decent name instead of "Lulzmekillzu" or the likes.

Or is it because it simply writes "Recommended" on the server list? If so, then it is simple, plain stupidity, that you don't look closer, and notice how it also writes "RP" on it.

Or if it is because you have a friend on Argent, which you want to play with, then let me ask you this: Please, choose a decent RP name, just for the sake of not being struck down upon, as you are doing now. Save yourself a lot of trouble. And if you find yourself caught in some RP, then simply say "((Sorry man, i ain't too good an RPer))" and leave. Most people will have the maturity, to understand that.

They're, as far as I know, working on a way for the naming policy to be actually enforced. I've not seen many of my reports go through to an actual name-change - I don't do many either, there's simply too many names to report.
I don't see their names as a huge nuisance to my rp, or my immerson - lest they come griefing on my head - but fact is that they are violating the EULA and for that they should get what they rightfully deserve - be it a warn, ban or whichever Trion uses for punishment. I understand people who find their immersion broken when they see "Superman52406" run across their screen, though - and all in all it would just be best if Trion had a proper way to make sure their EULA is maintained.

Another thing to note is that the people with these violations are probably not reading the forums at all.
Don't want to say that OP's post is a waste - it might just reach out to a few - but really, most do not come here at all.

You get sick of reporting people, I've did well over a dozen & not one was changed, just the same old general reply.. "Thanks for your response" etc. etc., what it should read is "Thanks for wasting your time & ours as we will do sod all, have a good day!".

... I don't see what's wrong with the name "Qwerty," I mean if it wasn't the first 6 letters on a keyboard, it'd be a perfectly acceptable name in any situation. As folks in Rift don't have keyboards, it's hardly a silly name at all!

I rly don't see where you can start blaming people while your name is Raaah, dude. On our server, I never ran upon some DEATHKILLER*insert nation. All the people use relatively decent names, like you do.

I really can't remember the last time i was annoyed by someones' name.
Maybe you overdrama a simple thing?

This entire topic is one that surfaces in every MMO and it in all honesty it used to be a pet hate of mine but since it never ever is enforced because it always seems easy to find a way around the naming policy what I opted for is something a little different.

I have all player names turned off if you cant see them as you run past them they cannot annoy you, I mostly keep out of the global channels unless I need to be there briefly for whatever reason and all of those players I do run into with such names I refuse to deal with.

This means the only time I need to report someone is when they directly interfere with me or my RP and that is very rare indeed because players with these kind of names are largely oblivious to RP anyway.

Btw. I don't play on RPG shards, as I prefer to RP in ACTUAL RP games - paper RPGs., but even I am frustrated by stupid names.

Even more so on asian games where you can use numbers and sometimes even worse things.
