Default FXAA in Nvidia Driver 301.24 (beta) works in Rift.

Just a little fyi for those interested. Nvidia's latest beta driver has a driver level FXAA option, and it works decently in Rift. Text at small scales looks a tad bit fuzzy in places, but the FXAA looks almost as good as Rift's supersampling, and seems to have less framerate impact than even the edge-smoothing option in Rift.

    Worth a look, I'd say.

    It does!

I have an old 2.9MHz dual-core system with a geForce 460 (768MB) and noticed NO framerate drop (medium in-game video settings, still ~20 fps standing in Meridian). The fuzziness is a lot less than the in-game edge smoothing, but still slightly noticeable.

Thanks for posting this up, I've got a few guildies changing over to it as well.

Great driver release from nVidia and can't wait for it to go final.

With everything pushed to max, sans shadows and now AA (as I have it on through nVidia control panel), I'm pulling 40-45 FPS in Sanctum on a single GTX560ti. Our clear in HK last night showed me even hanging around the 20-25 FPS mark in combat.

Going to enable my secondary 560ti for SLI tonight and see how it goes.

I've got an Intel i7-920 for those wondering on processor. Not overclocked.

This AA is not much different from the ingame-AA you can use in RIFT. Its only a better implemetation of it.
At the end its still only a blurr filter. ;)

As soon as you move the flicker is there but only blurred from the AA. But its not as blurry as the edgesmoothing in rift.

But not if you see 20 or more people as the same time in Sanctum. Then your fps is below 30... ;)

So if you say "sanctum" or "meridian" please tell how many players you have seen. Not the location is important.. it is how many players were visible at the same time!

I dont really see that much of a difference tbh.
Maybe you can post some before and afters of the fxaa stuff just so we can see

Good to know. Maybe I'll mess with it this weekend on my 580 Hydro.

Framerates won't change much with lots of players around because players cause CPU bottlenecking. FXAA/Edge-smoothing/SSAA are all GPU-intensive. You'll notice changes when you're out in a relatively unpopulated area.

FXAA and Edge-smoothing does only generate a very low extra GPU load (1-2%). Thats the reason why you loose almost no fps if you activate it (max 1-2fps..).

If you activate SSAA (superfine aliasing) you will loose tons of fps because SSAA is a real AA methode. The SSAA mode avaible in rift is 2xSSAA. That means the whole frame will be rendered 2 times before you will see the picture on the screen.
In the end this means, that your fps will be crushed by about 50% if you activate SSAA in RIFT.

And if you dont activate SSAA and you have a GPU with the speed of at least a GTX 460 or better, then RIFT is 95% cpu limited in situations like sanctum/meridian, Raids, zone events, ....

As soon as there are more then 10 players around you, the game gets extremly cpu limited. And if you are playing on one of those servers that have a good population, you will have more then 10 players on your screen most of the time if you are at the cities....

If you are in one of those cities and you dont see many players.. yes... then the game is still gpu limited (as long as you have a good quadcore with >3 GHz)

For reference, I have a i7 @4.0GHz and two GTX 680's in SLI and I still get about 30 fps in Meridian with max graphics at 1080p. The game engine is just bad.

Yeah SLI does not work very well in RIFT but in those CPU limited situations, it doesnt help at all... It only helps a bit if you are questing alone or in small groups. There your fps, with your system ,should be far above 60fps.
