    Default FIX the Dang LAG

Playing on Greybriar is almost impossible for me. Lag spikes are killing my play ..spikes from 109ms to
25k ms. It is ridiculous, and always happens after a patch. It gets particularly bad when world events happen. Really enjoy playing but i am not going to keep throwing money at a game thats virtually unplayable 80% of the time. And dont tell me its my machine... i have and i7, 8gig, and GTX 480's in SLI, Windows 7 Ultimate... internet 20mb connection.

    1) What's your ISP?
    2) Run a command prompt and type in 'tracert riftgame.com'. See if there are route timeouts.
    3) If you're peering in via Cogent, you're going to have issues.
    4) It's not your machine, it's a routing issue. Not exactly a end user or Trion issue sometimes. Man in the middle route is having issues due to congestion, etc etc.

    tracert works fine as below

    Tracing route to riftgame.com [208.94.26.135]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms 172.17.1.1
    2 7 ms 5 ms 5 ms h-66-134-146-193.cmbrmaor.static.covad.net [66.134.146.193]
    3 27 ms 20 ms 21 ms 172.22.0.1
    4 21 ms 21 ms 20 ms 192.168.34.173
    5 20 ms 20 ms 20 ms ip65-47-144-33.z144-47-65.customer.algx.net [65.47.144.33]
    6 20 ms 20 ms 22 ms ge11-1-3d0.mcr2.cambridge-ma.us.xo.net [216.156.7.17]
    7 51 ms 53 ms 52 ms vb1021.rar3.chicago-il.us.xo.net [216.156.0.29]
    8 81 ms 75 ms 265 ms 207.88.14.10.ptr.us.xo.net [207.88.14.10]
    9 75 ms 75 ms 75 ms 207.88.185.74.ptr.us.xo.net [207.88.185.74]
    10 76 ms 75 ms 76 ms border1.pc2-bbnet2.dal004.pnap.net [216.52.191.81]
    11 70 ms 71 ms 69 ms trionwn-4.border1.dal004.pnap.net [72.5.252.66]
    12 71 ms 69 ms 70 ms 135.26.94.208.dal.triongames.com [208.94.26.135]

    Trace complete.

But in game my ping is seldom below 2000ms for any length of time, Since last update.
And Trion had to patch after the previous patch because certain elements in the patch were causing lag..so it may be a similar issue. I know of several other people in my guild having the same problems.

Riftgame.com will traceroute to the main site. The server may be behind a different router. Faeblight is 209.197.4.34. It goes through cogentco but my latency is 60-100ms varying. Best bet would be to find the actual IP of the server you are playing on and run a traceroute on that.

I would find it hard to believe that the network issue would be behind their router, as they are likely on at least a gigabit connection. If it is on their end, the whole server would be seeing sporadic issues. These lag issues have generally been from cogentco.

If it was just Trion's fault, there would be different issues.
It's spelled "Riftdrawal", and yeah you have it.

contact your ISP. Do the route once in the morning, once in the afternoon, once in the night, and once in the midnight time and Send them the Tracert route info to them .

If i remember, there is a case of such massive lag on client side in WoW. This ISP, Starhub (one of Singapore ISPs) was throttling bandwidth. Those playing in the WoW's west coast servers suffers heavy massive lag. There is a report in the internet news. In the end, both sides work out to resolve the issue.

So, your ISP might be throttling. who knows. :P

    Also, check your firewall.
