PC Crashing running RIFT

OK fellas help me with this one.

I upgraded by old core 2 duo and NVidia 250 to

i5 3.2 ghz
P8 Z68-V Pro
8 Gig ram
Win 7 64bit
Terabyte Harddrive
Thermaltake 700w PS
1 terabyte Hardrive 73200rpm sata 6
Corsair H60 CPU liquid cooler.

I get 3DMark11 points at P5009 and CPU temps no higher than 50c

I can run BF3 on High for hours.

I play rift for 2 minutes and it shuts down my PC. Bam, no BSOD just shut down and reboot.

Are you running with the old video card or did you get a new one? I didn't see a new card listed with your new system components. Also, what driver versions are you using? Did you download the latest drivers from nVidia (or whomever makes your current card)? Using the Windows default drivers or older drivers is going to give you poor performance, at best, and crashes in the worst case. Most video drivers weren't very stable with Rift until June-ish of 2011. (mostly an fyi, but something to check if you haven't upgraded in a while) Also, have you upgraded your sound drivers? If you have onboard audio, especially from RealTek, the older drivers were pretty picky about running with Rift.

Just to check, does your new card require additional power from the power supply? If so, does the power supply have dedicated connections for graphics cards or do you have to draw power from one of the cables that feeds the hard drives and other components? If you don't have dedicated power connectors for your video card, you should at least try to make it so that the video card doesn't have to share a power rail with any other components. Rift is infamous for overworking graphics cards and using up a lot of power, so if whatever rail your graphics card is connected to isn't capable of supplying all the necessary power, it could shut down your computer.

Also, Rift isn't as hard on CPU's as it is on GPU's so any heat issues are more likely to be on the video card than anywhere else. And you need to make sure that the ENTIRE video card is getting adequate cooling. Most cards will cover the GPU cooling well enough, but with the way Rift taxes video memory and other components, the GPU isn't the only part of the card that overheats. Voltage Regulators and VRAM are also at risk for heat problems, along with other highly utilized chips. And if any of them fail, they'll crash the video card/driver and that can also cause a PC to shut down.

Other things to check are to make sure that your DirectX 9 is fully up to date. The best way to do that is to use the DirectX Web Installer from Microsoft's website. The 3 versions of DirectX (9, 10, 11) are all separate entities, so you can't just say "I have DX11" and be guaranteed to have the lateste DX9 or DX10. And Rift uses DX9, so that's the one you need to make sure is fully upgraded for Rift.

Other than that, you might want to get a dxdiag.txt file for your system and attach that to a forum post so that we can see what hardware you have and what driver versions you're using, just in case that might give people some clues on what might be going wrong.

to me this sounds similar as if you were overclocking your videocard higher than it could handle

I am using a 560 TI. Was using a 250 before the update. Now having the crashing issues.

I was running the latest drivers 285.79. I have dropped down to the 280.26 drivers and still crashing. The settings in RIFT are set to High with no modifications to it.

i have the same card, its not an overheat. try one thing, its a long shot but set the rift.exe to "run as admin" i had the very same prob with fallout new vegas.

DUDE! You are a genius! That was the issue. I can now run it in Ultra mode with an FPS of 68-75!
