I'm also having this problem. Both the lag spikes and frequent disconnects.
Wanted to chime in and say I have been seeing lag spikes and disconnects since the latest patch as well. I did dive a little into it and found that my disconnects are caused by my router thinking Rift is trying to DoS Attack me and shutting down the connection. Below is the line from my router log before one of my latest disconnects.

And just to clarify I had no issues prior to the latest patch.
same here on BT, I get bad pings with normal connection and WTFast. Anyone still having problems, its been like this for 3 days now. It might have been longer but I was on Holiday.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Same here i been having huge problems to play and it seems to get worse and worse each days.
Started a week ago and now it's really bad today making the game unplayable for me.
Also experiencing lag spikes and update speed is incredibly low
Normally my response time is around 80ms. Lately I've seen it spike to as high as 4000. The spikes in lag are making it difficult to play the game normally.
Also, the download speed for the game is approximately 1/5 of what it normally is. Hopefully someone is investigating.
1.4 has been working just fine for me. Even last night I was able to play a few hours with no problems. This morning, nothing has changed, no hotfix or anything and I keep getting d/c every 1-2 min. Can we please get a tech team to respond to this issue?? It is not my internet as it stays working even through the d/c. Seems like it is the same issues for most.

Just because YOU didn't change anything does not mean that your ISP didn't.
If you guys want help, you can't just say "I have lag".
Lets determine what is causing the lag.
Go get WinMTR. Open it up and run it to Trion's Network IP:

Let it run for 20-30 minutes and then post the report.

thing about his theory is this is a Game wide issue. My whole guild and everyone in play with on asphodel says something about the lag spike when they happen. So unless every ISP in the world is doing something then its not that.

Occasional lag spikes are one thing; constant high latency and lag is another.
Yes, if you get the occasional lag spike that is experienced by multiple users at the same time, that is most likely a Trion issue.
If you have high latency and constant lag each and everytime you log in, then the issue is most likely on the ISP side....but it might not be....hence, why I said everyone should run WinMTR and post the results.
After the last patch yesterday my latency jumps from the normal 31-41ms to 400s and on occasion up over 2k+.
This has happened before after a patch back in 1.2 and it stopped happening after almost a week.
Trion said that some server was down that alot of ppl link through to get to their server.
Not sure how much truth to that there was, but it did work itself out after a week.
It does suck for us that know our PC and ISP are fine based on other tests done.
There is no possible way I can raid when i have no control over my character for 2 ro 3 seconds at a time.

I have disconnected at least 4 times in the last 3 hours or so, this never happened to me before until this last patch/update. I have disconnected randomly before once in awhile but never this often. Last time i got disconnected i was in a WF and when i tried to reconnect i wasn't able to and had to quit the game.
It's just really annoying and I hope it gets fixed soon.
