Worst is, like I said for the first few months of the game I've never had that happen, now I get this glitch and the "Rift could nor install some blah blah blah..run Restore from the patcher as soon as possible".
I get the same message. I've tried running everything the patcher has to offer as well as reinstalling the game from scratch and nothing works.

The sad thing is. I installed Rift on a friends laptop which is an "ok" machine. Everything worked fine. So why is it only some systems have this problem?

Maybe all of you having this issue should lower your settings and maybe lower the AA in advanced video. Also, instead of complaining on the forums about lack of support, maybe go open a ticket. These forums specifically tech forums are support from the community. Its very rare that you will get tech help from the company, its a community forum, just go submit a ticket or better yet pick up the phone and call?

Personally I'm not complaining. Just looking for help.

Lowering settings hasn't helped. Someone already post that they tried to no effect.

People already said they have lowered their settings to no avail, but then, you didn't read the thread.
I'll post my tech problems in the tech thread, thanks.

I only have this issue when I first load into sanctum, but it runs perfect after that.

It's so bad for me that when I do the egg daily (to get the 10 gold eggs) I spend more time waiting for the quest NPC to render (twice, once to get the quest second to finish it) then picking up the corrupted coins.

Thought I'd share what I found.

I lost my motherboard and did some swapping around on an existing machine that was collecting dust and to my surprise the slow NPCs in Meridian were all fixed.

Went from: Sometimes almost 2 minutes before the NPCs showed up in Meridian
    AMD Phenom x4 Model 9750 2.4GHz
    Pegatron m2n78-la Motherboard
    750GB HD
    Windows Vista 64bit

To: NPCs showing up in less than 2 seconds
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
    Intel Corporation DG33SXG2 Motherboard
    500GB HD
+the 750GB HD from above with just RIFT installed
    Windows Vista 32bit

Same Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
    Same RAM: 8 Gigs, yes I know Win32bit doesn’t use the 8.
    Same Power Supply: 550Watts

    Fresh install of RIFT.

    I have a suspicion.

The major change was from 64 bit to 32 bit for you. I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate and the NPC are super slow to render. I'm running an SSD main drive, 16 gig of ram and a Radeon HD 6950. I'm running all my graphics at their lowest setting and did the networking hack to improve speed. It is still slow.

I think the issue might be Rift in the 64 bit environment. If that is the case then please release a 64 bit client with native Direct-X 11. Were not in the 80s anymore, get with the program.

Either that or the dynamic content system having latency sending the positioning data of NPC. I think if they cached the dynamic content location with a larger radius and longer cache keep time it might help. They could then just send position and state change data which is a smaller load. I have a large round trip since I am in Australia, but this latency is crazy bad (10 seconds) which makes big busy cities, raid and rifts ugly to play in. It feels like reality is molasses slowly pouring over me as I move through the dynamic world of rift.

So there are 3 confirmed 64 bit users in this post. 2 of us were also using AMD Phenom's (no clue if that could cause it). So like Mals said maybe its the 64-bit OS?

So, I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (former was Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit) on the exact same hardware and now it works like a charm.
Sucks that you have to downgrade your computer to be able to play the game (Can only use 4gb of ram).

If it's any help I also have a Dell Laptop and it takes the NPCs about 20-30sec to appear.

    Vista Business 32bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2.0 GHz
    2 Gigs of RAM
    NVIDIA Quatro NVS 135M

It barely runs RIFT on Low Quality Render, but it does run.

Could this have anything to do with where the game is installed? I install all my games at C:\Games instead of the default program files(x86) because I have issues installing games into that folder. But maybe this is also why rift tells me I need to run the patch again? Because its looking for somewhere specific for these files?

From what I can see we have a mix of hardware AMD/Intel CPUs (mine is dual Xeon 5503) and AMD/Nvidia graphics cards. Several are running SSD. There is a mix of RAM sizes too. So I do not think this is a specific hardware issues. There are other hardware specific issues (like the SLI ones), but this seems to transcend the hardware level.

The common element seems to be 64 OS running a craptastic 32 bit client....

I would urge Trion to release a native 64 bit client, and it would be even cooler if they releases a 64 bit client with native Direct X 11 support as well.

I think if they went native 64 bit with the Direct X version matching the OS that it would probably make a lot of these issues go away.

Can those with win7x64 post the directory they have Rift installed in? I know it sounds silly but games like Everquest won't work correctly in certain directories. So I'm wandering if this is part of the problem.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\RIFT Game

Win7 64bit vertex 2 SSD no problems here. Everything loads in under 2 sec.
