I recently tried to login to Rift and got these three error messages saying I can't connect to the update server or the update server is currently down. Anyone else getting these messages and are there any fixes for these yet?

i found that when i disabled zonealarm i stopped getting the error :-(
I think i need a little more work to get to the bottom of it.
i have had the same problem for a week and a half now and have tryed the many fixes posted on these forums to no avail.i have spoken to trion's tech support and still can not get to the bottom of it.
i am going to reinstal windows tonight and try loading from scratch without any other programs running.
if that doesn't work i am at a total loss.
I'm getting a similar problem, I usually get error #2023 and #2025 a few times before I manage to log in. I also have problems connecting to this website, with time outs etc, but every other site and game is running fine. Once I'm actually in game and playing I have no connection problems at all and my latency is about 60ms. I'm in the UK on BE wired broadband. It's not really an issue for me as I can get in fine eventually but maybe the extra info will be useful.
I'm in the UK, with an O2 wholesale connection through a reseller (which uses the same network as Be), and I'm seeing the same problems with the forums and the game. I also tend to get kicked back to the character selection screen a few times before getting into the game, but once I'm in, I'm usually OK.
I've just put in a support ticket with my ISP with some traceroute data (which shows lots of packet loss starting at te7-2.ccr02.lon02.atlas.cogentco.com), and hopefully they'll have an answer soon.
Same here tried several combintions of computers and connections but no luck
Just adding my voice. I'm in the UK, EU servers, and I'm also on "O2" (which is related to "Be"'s network, for any Trion people trying to link problems between the two networks).
Like others above, it's been around two weeks now that I have problems accessing anything to do with Rift - the forums, account management page, and logging in to the game. Sometimes it works fine, but frequently I have to retry multiple times, or come back after 10 minutes, before I can log on to the game/forums/website.
Rift is the only site I'm having this problem with, and I can connect fine from my parent's house (which uses Virgin media ISP) - so it's obviously a problem specifically between Rift servers (or the data-centre the Rift servers are all held in), and O2. I'd love Rift to acknowledge this officially - in the same way they did for "BT" users in the UK post-launch, where they found BT were causing problems for players of Rift and worked with BT to get it fixed.
I am also on O2/Be there and also have this problem for exactly the same time period as everyone else.
Can I ask do you play on the USA servers? As it seems to be purely the USA that has a problem for me.
I have opened 2 Tickets with Trion about it, one got closed as solved as soon as they found out it was not their network at fault and was infact inbetween them and O2/Bethere, second one so far seems to be getting ignored after I sent them the ping/tracerts they asked for.
Everyone please please open tickets if you have this problem so they know it is a widespread issue.
This is the ping and tracert for the ip they told me to test.
Results were terrible.
I have to say I am incredibly annoyed that Trion went out of their way to fix BT , Orange and Virgins network problems but O2/Bethere they just completley ignore us it seems.

I have this exact problem also.
Login screen takes several attempts, then getting to char select takes several attempts then choosing a character takes several attempts. then once I am in game it is fine.
Hate how you cannot edit posts, just noticed person I quoted in last post said they were on EU servers. When I have tested the EU servers they seem to work fine for me, I am only having the problem with the USA servers, or maybe I just got luck when I did test the EU servers.
The problem for me seems to be the Cogentco network in USA.
Anyone else on USA servers?

Not tried the US servers - but for the EU servers my problems only happen loading the patcher/launcher, and clicking to connect - I get a lot of errors here, and sometimes have to wait for 10-20 minutes before the patcher gets to the point where I can hit "Play" and actually load the game. Once the game is loaded, though, all is fine.
But having read what you said above - I wonder if it's because the patcher connects to the US servers at some stage (either at the first account authentication, or elsewhere) - and you only connect directly to EU-based IP's once your client actually loads?
I know the forums and account management pages are hosted in the US, which I have a LOT of trouble with... so if the game launcher/patcher also relies on a connection to the US, then I think we could narrow the problem down to the route between O2/Be, and the US datacentre used by Trion...
Well I got a more informed answer from Trion about the problem, I was specifically pointing out the work they done for Virgin and Orange and why could they not do it for us.
This is the reply I got.
As dissapointing as this is, this is WAYYYYY more then O2/Be there have given me at this point, O2 refuse to even let me SPEAK to level 2 because of the problem not being DIRECTLY on their network.Hello!
Thank you for contacting us regarding RIFT.
Your request is outside the scope of support we are able to provide. Our network team was able to re-route traffic for European customers to connect to our European servers. We are always working to strengthen our connections for customers to connect the way they want but I have no immediate solution to offer under these circumstances. I have received some input from our network engineers and according to them it is a much different scenario when trying to connect from your specific location to our Dallas servers. I have submitted a report to have it investigated, but as I said, there is not much else I can offer you at this time. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you for your continued support of Trion Worlds and for playing RIFT. Your reference number for this ticket is .
Sincerely,

I am very happy that they are at least investigating it at Trion, as it is a lot more then what O2/Be There are doing right now, funny thing is it is O2/Be Theres JOB to investigate issues that effect their customers connection, and Trion is doing more for us right now then they are.

Another O2 customer having problems here
I am playing, or rather, trying to play on the US servers, everything has been fine until approx.two weeks or so ago and now I have:
1. Odd freezes in the game, my frame rate and ping are fine and the 'tv' icon in game is green but the game is frozen
2. It can take an age to actually get logged into the game, just constant disconnect from char select then game server
3. It can be difficult even getting to the above point because it times out even when trying to enter password at log in screen
4. When I have managed to get into game, when I check my network/internet access speeds they are dropping down to 18Mbps, come out of game and they go back up to normal.
I have spoken to O2 who have said they are not aware of any problems at their end of things, but after reading this thread that is plainly hogwash.
This is really taking the enjoyment out of playing Rift for me, please Trion, you sorted out the problems with BT and Virgin is it not possible for you to do the same with O2?
double post
