    Default PvP Test Outcome

    First, I’d like to thank everyone that came out to PTS to take part in the PvP normalization tests. I’d especially like to call out a few individuals that hotly debated the subject on the forums and also took part in the tests on PTS, providing invaluable feedback: Khelendross, Hannonhellbringer, Tyaus, Bctrainers, Zaros, Synovia, and Undrsiege.

    Sometimes, we try out crazy things on the PTS. Sometimes those changes are strange, exciting, or even frightening. Being able to run these tests on PTS and having real turnout helps us more than we can describe. Every time we put something out there we know it will create debate and discussion, and we thank you for being a part of both the discussions and the testing itself.

    With this particular test, we had originally intended to try it out on the live servers to gather data for a week.

    However, the PTS test provided enough data on its own for us to determine that this course of action is not a positive direction for Rift PvP, and that there is no need to extend this test onto the live servers.

    We still have goals to lower the barrier to entry into PvP, to make the overall experience more positive for newcomers, and to generally improve our PVP for all who participate. We will continue to work towards those goals as we move into the future.

    While I do wish the test had been taken live, and I think normalization is the way to go, I recognize the incredible challenge it would have been for you guys to implement. Look forward to seeing what else you guys come up with.

    The only other way would be to make a exeprt wf and master wf and use rank to seperate the two.

    Or possibly regular expert and master.

    1-15, 16-35, 35-50

    And you can adjust as you see fit.

    Queues will shoot up though.

    However class balance and class composition is the real problem. Not gear.

    Im a bit disappointed that it didn't at least get a shot on live to see how everyone reacted. I believe that the people complaining about it are the vocal minority, and that most people would actually like to see some kind of PvP normalization happen. Oh well, not a big deal, but I feel it should have been at least tried out on live.

    As long as you guys go the route of Conquest with pvp instead of just more warfronts, I will be one happy pvper =)

    While I was never really for or against normalization I saw far too many variables to be equalized in a controlled setting without so many changes. When you match SP-Crit to a equal number for clerics and mages that already is a deviation for how both classes work on live. Clerics have more SP and Mages have more Crit and the classes are balanced that way so to try and balance each with with equal stats is alot more work since you have to make numerous changes to fix this...

    I think heal debuffs are a major issue in PvP at the moment and that should be where the new focus is placed. You can say a team with no clerics will loose but must also mention a team with no aoe heal debuff is just as much a factor.... We need to balance healing around the 10% heal debuff or remove all passive aoe heal debuffs from PvP, as a passive cleanse was shown to be overpowered the same can be said for the passive heal debuff.

    If Trion wants to make gear a non factor in PvP than the best way is to make the core pieces/weapons easier to obtain and use progression based on runes and sigils and PvP synergy crystals... Possibly make a offensive and defensive PvP set..

    I think a take on normalization is a viable path for balance, though it may not be a viable path for community satisfaction given the sheer number of people that came out of the woodwork to say they like having PvP gear progression.

    In any event, the update is appreciated, if only because it'll stop these new qq threads from people that are otherwise invisible on this board.
