I have to admit this strat mystified me yesterday. It's an escalation weekend and the bonus for a long drawn out fight is greater. Yet we had people ranting and foaming at the mouth about how we needed to zerg the boss and beat it down for a win within 2 minutes. When it didn't work it sparked a rant worthy of an Onyxia raid in /raid chat about how everyone was losers for not trying to win immediately with the boss zerg.
And it was a repeated plan. "ZOMG...MUST ZERG BOSS....KILL....YUSUCK!?

This map becoming lame has nothing to do with preference, at least from some angles
DPS has gone much much higher and collectively it provides to trivialize Scion. This is why I liked the idea of keeping the map structure (it's creative and 'pathy') and make it a raw deathmatch.
You can hate or like the map all you want. When it was released average DPS was at a point. The higher DPS gets while HP pools of PS being untouched, the more trivialized the map will get. Just a fair observation. That is the trend it will continue in. This is why I like Deathmatch because that concept scales infinitely.
When it was released the main point was to get the plus dmg increase/dmg reduction from running stones on top of the 10-30 points they gave. If the other team wanted to try the current tactics (like you said with lower dps back then) then the other team would run some stones and get their bonuses and wipe them easily. At that point the team that ran stones would have such a high dmg inc/reduction that the other team couldn't do much to make a comeback. The bonuses helped prevent stupid boss rushes.
When they took this away last summer and made the stones count for only points on the Molinar battlegroup you would see the same stupid thing you see now, boss rushes. Just like boss rushes ruined av it is doing the same thing to scion.
~ Three minute games weren't fun then and they certainly aren't now.

The only time it is worth playing Scion is when its the bonus or the daily. Otherwise its a useless zone that goes on for too long. Doing two to three minutes worth of work to get 1k faction is nice. It actually makes the zone fun, since its a rush to get things done... other then to farm or get farmed for 10-20 minutes.
No one is forcing you to queue this instance. You have others to choose from.
What part of: 1k every 3 minutes over an hours time = 20k favor is >6k for 30 to 45 minutes does the op not understand?
Heck even losing that many is about 10 to 12k

Sounds like Rift is now seen as where the "kool kids" hang out so all the Alterac Valley "zerg the boss, ignore objectives" heroes are now playing in PS
