I know, right? It's amazing how some of us have actually looked into the provided information (leaked PC Gamer article, etc, etc) and used this to formulate early opinions that are based on information revealed so far.

Of course, some of us just rely on hopes and dreams and "Skyrim was awesome, surely this will be too." Let us not forget that Morrowind was awesome, and Oblivion was a highly polished designed-for-consoles turd (with great mod support that, really, saved it on PC -- I doubt we'll get system overhaul mods for an MMO trololo).

Looks like a system killer - Pass!

Seriously though, my interest has peaked at an official 'eh', how many more fantasy MMO's can we cram into the market?

I love ES for the modding tools I can use, and for a long while I was dreading the announcement that TES:VI would be an MMO. I was close, but it's not VI and it's not developed by Bethesda (while their initial releases may be buggy and unoptimized, they still deliver in the single player aspect and modding communities).

Well after seeing the E3 interview and gameplay of ESO, I'm pretty stoked right now. You can play as anything you want, the typical "roles" of MMOs are unnecessary for victory, and the world of Tamriel to explore... OMG I want.

AND that it's not a console port! FINALLY.

From what I've seen so far, which of course isn't a huge amount, the only connection between this MMO and the TES series is the name 'Elder Scrolls'.

The depth of an RPG like Morrowind or Oblivion is never seen in MMOs, nor is the freedom of exploration and playing how YOU want (MMOs tell YOU what to do next and where to go).

This game may, or may not, turn out to be good, but I don't expect it to look much like the TES games that precede it: just like LOTRO at times barely relates to the books that it supposedly is based on, I expect a similar disconnect with this one.

I'm pretty sure the "1000 years before 'Skyrim'" will have plenty of lore to work with. That and exploring places like the Red Mountain, Elsweyr, and Black Marsh will be amazing. I really hope it's non-instanced and each location is huge and explorable like TES:V. But that might be TOO much to ask for

Meh, it may be good in it's own right but I wouldn't use TES history as a marker for the expectation. Most of what you love about TES games will not happen in an MMO.

I think TESO might be the first legitimate MMO to challenge Rift since launch.

THey haven't said yet but I think it will be sub based. So yea it may be the first legitimate challenge to Rift in terms of the same model. And I'm fairly interested mostly because of Matt Firror's involvement. Matt is a great guy. I can see alot of the things I liked about DAOC being parts of this game, in a way moreso than GW2. The combat gameplay also seemed interesting. The visuals are ok, they will have to step up to beat Rift in that department. But its one of the few upcoming MMO's on my list (along with Defiance) that I intend to check out. Alot of people say MMO's are dying. IMO its the opposite. I am seeing some very solid and strong games coming out recently because WoW has shown itself to be vulnerable.

You haven't actually seen the footage of ESO have you? It's a 3rd person game with a camera just like Rift. There is no FPS combat of any kind at this stage of development and their game director said there wouldn't be.

Do your research. I see a lot of you all saying this game will be like this when in the most recent Game informer mag it says it wont.

TESO will not have a standard TES combat system they are looking at a system which to me sounds exactly like GW2's with a very slight twist. There is a focus that everyone will be able to do everything which honestly if that is like GW2 will suck for PvE content.

It will be quasi sandbox this means there will be a theme park overlaying the game and you wont be able to go too far out of the way or you will die to mobs higher than your level thus more or less forcing you down the "golden path".

I have to agree with this and all the other statements in regards to this idea. EVERY TIME someone gets it into their thick skull to take a great single player game and turn it into an MMO, it turns into ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. PLEASE JUST LEAVE IT ALONE ALREADY!!!!! DAMMIT! That's what I loved about Morrowind and all the TES games, single player, I can do what the hell I wanted in game. I modded the game so that I could have houses in every city and grew plants in them. I grew killer plants in the middle of the towns that killed the NPC's as they walked around - fun times I called meteors from out of the sky into cities, unleashed waves of my undead armies - and these were on quiet days

Making this game into an MMO is going to ruin it - just watch and especially since Bethesda isn't developing it. I guess they were being smart after seeing the debacle that Bioware did and didn't want to completely destroy their reputation forever.

So i went to the official site and to gamespot.com to read their ops. It looks pretty, wondering what engine they're using... My only prob with it is that it will prob be, yet another, smashem 'n slashem game with nothing too innovative. If they REALLY wanted to create something that would make me PERHAPS go WoW, then they really should make it into a totally sandbox game - it's still themepark. That was the great thing about TES - total freedom - here, meh...

It was originally reported to be the Hero Engine but apparently that is false. So that probably means they are using a engine designed in house (they have people who can do it, TES games have all used in house engines), or like Rift with Gamebryo, the engine was built of the Hero Engine but very little of that engine remains.

I think we can safely assume that there will be a TES:VI [Elsweyr/Black Marsh/Hammerfell/Orsinium/whatever] since Bethesda will be working on that, and not ESO. So our single player sandbox awesomeness will still be around.
