    Why does that matter?

How does this effect you in any way?
    1) One of what? I know how Blizz makes their "EXTRA" money. Do you?
    2) DRM. Not at my lesiure.
    3) See number 1. Which is not fun for me.

I'm one of the people that pushed for Diablo 3; because I liked Diablo 2. It's their fault, I didn't buy Diablo 3. I have the money... but I don't want it now. Just my opinion. I've already voted with (my) money.

I’ve preordered Guild Wars 2. And; depending on what TRION does, I may continue playing Rift as well. I will definitely be playing End Of Nations; by TRION. I've enjoyed Rift; for the time I've played RIft.
WOW was fun in 2006. Diablo 2 was fun, for the game it was... which Diablo 3 is not.

Well, my guild and I have not left for another game.

We just have not bothered logging in for the last 3 weeks except to do a 20 min guild quest a couple of times.

We feel the game has gone flat (see: constant new threads popping up weekly.) We've been struggling to stay with it since at least December.

Don't say we're complaining. We'd like to see Rift succeed. We've already posted pages of highly detailed discussions about what, how, and why, along with pages of detailed suggestions. And I mean detailed. And I mean pages.

Nothing to do with school (some of us are retired), nothing to do with summer....although I agree both of those absolutely do temporarily affect population. Not sure 1.9 is going to do it for us either. That's not our market segment (points to pages of detailed discussion.)

Will Rift dry up into a wasteland of empty shards? No. Will it survive? Yes. However, quality of that survival is another issue.

We will check back in September, after summer, after other game releases, and revisit and assess from there. Our founder's run out at the end of that month.

What came out of this (WoW) is a subculture of raiders -- no one who had raided in previous games -- boors who can't even spell noblesse oblige, much less explain what it means.

I want the boors off my server. The raiders I'm fine with. It's the boors I want gone.

    Basically, the short answer D3.

Even if the game is a different genre, it still pulls from the same 'pool' .....GAMERS. So knock it all you want but people want to see and play the with the shiny new toy. The question is will people come back?

This isn't just directed toward Rift. As I'm sure all other games across the board saw a drop.

I should have specified, I apologize. One of those people who seems to take what Blizzard does as a company personally. I don't really care how they make their money, if they're not committing genocide overseas in order to make video games, what's the big deal?

If you only have a couple of hours or less to play per week then I can understand, especially if those hours are when it's down for maintenance are your only hours to play.

You can play the entire game from beginning to end and not ever deal or see those people who buy things off the real money auction house. Therefore, that's a pretty silly reason to not play a game, you could actually not even include that because it makes no sense.

If you don't want to play it that's fine, I was looking at the reasons and they seemed to be a little ridiculous.

The concept and simplicities of the game are the same; fast-paced hack and slash loot exploding from every destructible thing possible. If not having an offline single player version is a deal breaker that's fine, it just seems a bit strange.

That people can leave Rift (OR EVEN WoW) to play such rehashed ******* as D3 beats my imagination. These little things explain a lot, anyway. I'm sure the financial markets are driven by similar mechanisms. Sheesh.

And its ' CHARACTER ' by the way. Not that that is important..... obviously.
Not to be nit-picky - well, yes I am If the OP is German, then he spelled the word correctly as character is spelled "Charakter" in german but should be capitalized as it is a noun - I speak German if you haven't already guessed lol

This happens to pretty much every MMO; people come and people go for various reasons, often times even reluctantly.

Unless we're talking about SWTOR, of course. Then everything is somehow different it's clearly the end of the world.

I was a super fan of D2, D3 is insanely disappointing to me, so im playing D3 only when i have time outside of Rift. Sadly i only bought D3 at this point out of a weird sense of obligation to D2. *sigh* I guarantee people will get super bored of D3 real fast. I played Beta and was already bored!!
Agreed. I was a D3 beta tester and finished the first scene with my voodoo priestess and thought, "uh, that was fun, I guess..." It was ok, nice visuals but not a game I would go out and play...

I've been working on a project that's been sucking up all my free time.
You can play WoW in any MMO. You don't have to play WoW in RIFT. Oh, and no, RIFT is not a WoW clone. Not having fun any more? Learn to play, noob! I don't speak for Riftui, but I moderate stuff there. Got ideas for improving the RIFT community? Feel free to PM me. Just came back? Welcome back! Here's what's changed. (NOTE NEW URL)

@ the mod who moved this:

Just curious, but how is a thread regarding Rift's overall population and playerbase considered off topic? Or, would it be more precise to say that this thread could be cast in a negative light, and so you thought it best to bury it down here?

    Again, just curious.

I doubt you've even played D3 -- where did such a harsh opinion come from?
