Since trying it a few weeks ago, i log into panda beta every now and then.. while i think pandaria is gorgeous.. there's a feeling of 'hell no' in my gut, from having played for 6 years and finally moving on after being significantly disappointed in cata.

Its just more of the same wow. After playing (and loving) the endgame for the first time in wrath (im casual) i really can't imagine why the hell anyone should be asked to do the same thing again every 2 years.. and fall for it..

Rift is wow gameplay, but does -everything- better. So i'll stay here for my wow gameplay until its bested.. which will be a very tough call.

p.s. If anyone here things guild wars 2 looks better than rift.. please link some screenshots, or at least describe what i can do in the beta this weekend to see it. I really want to see evidence of better detail/design in gw2 than rift..

What I have seen and heard is that it wont be so much better then Rift, graphically.
Some area's will(that human city for example), some area's wont. I would say that the characters look better though, but the world is about the same.
havent played the beta, this is purely from what I did read in previews and the screenshot that I have seen
and I LOVE how Rift looks btw ;)

My observations from the last beta weekend were.. actually thinking about it.. in no way whatsoever did it even start to nip at the heels of rift's graphics. I was going to say the water.. but i was fishing the other afternoon in freemarch.. had the camera angle and time of day just right.. it looked REAL. The water is notably pretty in gw2 for sure.

Where i'm notably disappointed in gw2 is the environment detail. Remember when you first got to scarwood reach for the first time, and went, whoa.. this is a bit lacking in detail compared to what you had experienced so far? Imagine that, but slightly worse due to the less fancy shaders in gw2. All that i saw in gw reminded me of that level of detail. If you look closely at the actual gameplay screenshots.. there is no ground clutter.. or any significant complexity in the environment.

As far as cities go.. imagine stormwind graphics as 1, sanctum as 10. the human city in gw2 is about a 3 maybe.

Sorry for the random tangent there about graphics. I'm just getting older, and from having played games for 2 many years.. good immersive graphics is one of the few things that i look forward to.

Back to wow though.. Pandaria is absolutely gorgeous. The wow level of detail has been totally hidden in the design, more than anything it seems like you're looking at a cartoon. And the epic vistas from wrath are back with a vengeance. Happy.

What makes me wonder is though, kids still seem to assert that gw2 has better graphics than wow. I honestly want to see this. I like that gw2 is nosub and have preordered already (whether i cancel that will be dependent on this weekends beta). In my old eyes.. panda looks better overall and the gameplay in gw2 is is a button mash version of wow. Its a long shot from tera.

ps. I can't do tera either. Its not that much better looking, and you can get the same gameplay for free with dragon nest. yup yup

    Default Does anyone miss WoW?

If you mean that game several years ago, called World of Warcraft - YES.

If you mean the current World of Hordecraft - NO.

Now and again I glance at Blizzards WoW forums, here is something of fairly up to date interest which I will link folks as its relevant.

As we've said a number of times before, the story of the Warcraft universe is ever evolving and moving forward. We're focussing on the game as it now, working on making it as enjoyable as possible. We do that partly by reading your thoughts and feedback, what you like about WoW and your not-so-favourite things. So please, talk about the features and mechanics you liked specifically in Vanilla, TBC etc. and how you'd like to see them implicated into today's game, but know that we're not planning on opening servers with previous versions of the game.

So nothing new here bar one point which is important.......

That blue post is 2 hours old as I post here.

I think a lot of people may have been hanging on to WoW in the hope that falling subscriptions and the pressure of new games like GW2 (as well as Rift - LOTRO etc) may have "encouraged" Blizzard to change its mind on retro servers......

Well that blue post says it all........no retro servers, no previous WoW versions, no returning to the days of Vanilla, Burning Crusade, and Wrath and that information is bang up to date as of July 2012.

Hence I think there may be another exodus of disenchanted players now knowing there is no official way back now..........

I do think that GW2, Rift and Lord of the Rings may all benefit from this statement

GW2 via its no sub and "hype new game" model, Rift as it does appeal to the technically minded raiding gamer (and this game has some similarity to Burning Crusade) and finally Lord of The Rings may also appeal to both lore/role playing types as well as the no sub model

    Just my personal views folks

Yes, I MISS WoW!! I miss when it was a great game. I miss when doing something there gave you a great sense of achievement. I miss having fun. I miss the challenges. That's why if and when I do log in, I head for the "old world" I miss playing content with my great guildies.

Umm there is a way, there ALWAYS is a way... if they really wanted to play those older versions, there are "venues..."

    Yes I know (smile)

But in my opinion it is taking an unacceptable security risk, both with private server software and perhaps your credit card.........

And also many private servers by their very nature are 'pay to win' selling both weapons and amour

Finally private servers tend to strip out many in world mobs and features leaving a bare bones world, also tend to be unstable with frequent crashes

I played WOW on and off for about a year (2010-2011). Do I miss playing WOW? No. Not even a little bit.

Do I miss my characters from WOW? Yep. I'll always have the screenshot of my favorite little "toadie" (my nickname for the goblins).

WOW was my first MMO, so it taught me alot. But I honestly don't think I'll ever go back to playing. There are so many things I like better in Rift.
My old signature refuses to work. Please imagine this sentence as a freekin' amazing signature, full of wonder and beauty. But please don't imagine it in pink. That would hurt my feelings. Thank you.

I think that post is based on this. WoW reacted to what they thought players wanted with WotLK. They actually lost subs in NA/EU, though this was disquised by expansion into Asia, China most importantly. They saw their marketing budget soar and over 70% of new players not play past level 20. They then specifically stated at the pre-Cata earnings call that the purpose of Cata was to return the game to pre WotLK due to these issues. Cata blew up in their face. Blizz has NO clue what to do. Has the game been suffering due to content direction? Has the game been suffering simply due to age as all franchises eventually do, the dated look? Simply altering tastes in the market? They thought they knew twice and twice they got burned so now there probably osn't much more to do is pray the players can point them in a direction.

As for missing it...not really. I played it in vanilla side by side with EQ2 and liked EQ2 enough then that I canceled my WoW subscription.

If the question was EQ2 I would say I missed pre-DoV EQ2. Sentinel's fate Hard Mode raiding was a blast. After that I think it became bread a circuses to try and keep the IP going in the hopes that EQnext will still have a built in fan base.

Speaking of that, has Blizz changed their mind that they will not have a successor to WoW? Sorry but at some point you do have to move on.

It's "if..then" macro system and ability to write your own scripts too was very advanced (RIFT doesn't even come close to its power). I didn't like the cartoonist look of the toons but, hey, that was the technology at the time and it is a very old game. I have fond memories of it, but I also have memories of what drove me away from it - permanently. No, I tend not to go back as a customer to any company I end up disliking (doesn't make sense to keep letting myself get annoyed). It's the company I support, and even then only if I like the products. And that's why I won't go back to WoW ever, or ever play any game they market in the future. I am only as loyal as the loyalty I get reciprocally, because it's my money until I spend it, and I only spend it as I like but not because others feel I should. Yeah, I miss WoW, we had tons of fun together. But, good riddance from me anyway - permanently and in regard to all Activision Blizzard products. Unlike back then, there's lots of competition now.
I really feel you they competely destroyed that game. Look what they did with D3 - that could've been a great game, now it's just a nerf ball field...

Finally add ons totally changed the game and were a major factor in the reason why I left, so I can safely say I only miss add ons to the extent I don't have to worry about them any more

I think most of us MISS what WoW WAS, not what WoW is now........that could be defined as somewhere between BC and Wrath......and now there is unlikely to be a way back unless its Rift (especially the oncoming expansion) or maybe GW2
I miss Carbonite - made mining ore so easy and didn't grind hours upon hours doing it. The other really good addon, Helium, I used for my healer that made keeping everyone alive really easy and without hassles. Especially if you have a tank that lacks a brain and DPS stands for DERPS because they constantly stand in the crap after I repeatedly tell them not to - sigh...

I'm beta testing panda land too - well, haven't touched it in a month or so - sigh... just can't be bothered to tell the truth. And I think, since you think that panderia is beautiful, blizz modeled it off of Nagrand - the most beautiful zone in WoW i think. They just added an Asian flair to it but I can still see elements of Nagrand in it.
