The long would be that I've been looking forward to it since I first read the books... and given that for the most part, the show was great in the first season, I see no reason why it will disappoint.

I actually only saw it for the first time a week ago. I bought the season 1 box set and pretty much watched it nonstop for the 10 straight hours. I just have to find someone with HBO once college ends to continue watching season 2 since I don't have it at home.
As for me, I never read the books but I am hoping that Syrio Forrel (sp?) is still alive. He was awesome in season 1.

A big part of the way the books are written is from the view point of a different char each chapter. The TV show has a lot of scenes/words that were not in the book. The gay scene for example... heck I didn't even know they were gay... but reading through the books this time there are subtle hints through books 2 and 3, but it was never anything i picked up on!
Because GRRM has such a big say in the script, I do like watching the show just to expand the world a little... to actually see what was going on, things that the reader only hears about via a message from a raven etc.

The last scene was amazing.
Like, they basically did that off-screen in the books, but thanks to the magic of "not being bound by characters by virtue of the PoV narrative device" we got to see the effects of Cersei's loose-end tying.
