    I support his removal.

The article basically says at one point that we all do stupid things so that kind of makes it ok, but the reality is we all have to accept the consequences of our actions. Mittani did something really stupid, and it was out in the public for everyone to see. CCP isnt going to support him in this because it would make them look bad regardless of what actually goes on in the game. Mittani did the right thing after he got off the plane so I applaud him for realizing how big his error really was and trying to take care of it.

lol I heard about that. That psycho got up in front of the entire fanfest and told the players there to try to get a suicidal man (because of a recent divorce) to kill himself via endless harassment, and laughed about it. He claimed it was due to being drunk, despite the fact that his presentation was prepared before the drinking began. lmao. Then he went on in his apology later on to call the same poor guy out saying that alllllll these people wanted Mittens to remain chairman but since this guy didn't actually believe the sincerity of his apology, and he was the only one who mattered, Mittens would go ahead and step down. Of course, now everyone blames the victim.

10058 people made an extremely poor choice. The CSM represents the playerbase of EVE online, and right now more than ever (with DUST coming out) CCP needs to show that playerbase isn't made up of complete lunatics, otherwise they will be hard pressed to get anyone under 18 to be allowed to play. And how did Mittani help that? Well, he certainly got EVE tons of attention!

And then, after his public apology, he posted what he REALLY felt on the goons personal forums, stating that his reasoning for leaving the chairman spot had nothing to do with any apology but was actually for his own personal reasoning and for the Goonswarm . http://pastebin.com/B7HCtBUE

Luckily, CCP finally stood up and said "enough". They gave him a 30 day ban and removed him from the CSM. He basically took the CSM and turned it into a joke, all the while making claims that every good thing that happened in the game was because of him. This is all well and good, but even in EVE where the most commonly used term is "HTFU" there is a limit, and he passed that limit by MILES and laughed in the face of anyone who told him "hey, that isn't right".

Thanks for the detailed and well-researched post. I am fascinated by the Eve community/player base.
You can play WoW in any MMO. You don't have to play WoW in RIFT. Oh, and no, RIFT is not a WoW clone. Not having fun any more? Learn to play, noob! I don't speak for Riftui, but I moderate stuff there. Got ideas for improving the RIFT community? Feel free to PM me. Just came back? Welcome back! Here's what's changed. (NOTE NEW URL)

He went to fanfest. An annual meeting where the game developers force alcohol down people's throats and get them to do embarrassing things on a live stream before they hire them on as employees.

Also they show trailers for the stuff they are coming out with and have FPS tournaments where they give away PS3's. Maybe a boxing/chess match who knows.

I think they tried to send a bunch of spaceship nerds into space this year ,but I don't know if that worked.

Love his post on the Goonswarm forums. So all the attention is because the media hate CCP and Goonswarm, not because he was hoping to make someone commit suicide in real life. RIIIGHT. Honestly if I was running CCP I'd have permabanned him.

Way to fall for the media spin.

    Another article: http://couldhavetakenitsolo.wordpress.com/

"I feel strongly that, at a bare minimum, this means they(ccp) should have shared in the responsibility. Instead, they came down hard on the man that – in many player’s eyes – had a major role in saving their company’s very soul last year."

That's pretty much it. The goons are a fun part of EVE, as it gives the game sort your classic "bad guy" corporation to fight against (much like Evil Bastages was to Shadowbane or Darkfall). Up until now I've enjoyed seeing what they do. As a lowsec/nullsec pirate, I could have cared less who owned what- target is a target regardless of the flag they fly under. So seeing the tears of players who had everything destroyed by Mittani and his Goons was kind of amusing to watch. But in this situation, he has shown himself to be a little more naive/obsessed with this game than I would have hoped he would be...

The situation is simple: he pushed for players to harass an individual who expressed suicidal urges due to extreme emotional stress from a divorce for the purpose of trying to get the guy to kill himself IRL because he thought it would be funny. People were so shocked/outraged that he did it that massive amounts of media attention was garnered from it. Yet, Mittani has become so detached from reality that he thinks that all of this media attention is actually some kind of jealousy of his in game prowess (which, technically speaking, while the Goons are something to look at, there are larger and nastier Alliances).

As if, at this point, any of those articles actually give two craps about what the goons do IN GAME. He honestly tried to push for a man to die OUTSIDE OF THE GAME. Of course people are going to freak out. Of course there are going to be tons of articles written, tons of attention, and people are going to demand that he no longer be allowed to represent the playerbase of the game. That would reflect poorly on both CCP and it's current/future games.

But the Goons are so obsessed with EVE itself that they can't comprehend people care about something more than their internet spaceships and pixel space stations, so they get confused and have a victim complex over the whole thing, saying he is being "mistreated".

Edit: Feel free to read all of the articles I linked in my previous post. They offer a great deal of insight into what happened. Personally, I neither disliked or nor liked Mittani. He's a bit of a loudmouth, and he takes a lot of credit for things that he did not do alone (he claims ALL the CSM6 glory when CSM is made up of many individuals, and the minutes for their meetings show they all contributed greatly). He also tends to point out that "many players" support him... well, yea. He's the CEO of a corp with over 2,000 active players (who can all probably muster 2-3 alts a piece). In a game like EVE, people support their CEO, that's how it works. Now, after this little tirade of his, I do dislike him a bit more. What he did in game was funny because his character was a total ****** and because I always assumed he was someone completely different from that in real life. He always SAID he was someone different from that in real life. But the way he acted that night, and the way he continued to act after the fact has shown that, in reality, he's just as much of a scumbag as his in game character portrays him to be. And suddenly, that him a lot less likeable.

Also note that in EVE: Alts are on separate accounts. When people talk about having multiple alts, it means they have multiple accounts. You CAN have more than 1 character per account (3 actually), but the way skill training works in the game it is near pointless unless you just want a forum alt or something.

Heh, since when did EVE news start posting blog posts from Goonswarm members? Goonswarm being the Alliance Mittani is CEO of, for those who don't know.

As one of the nations that fought against the Evil Bastages in Shadowbane, I can still say they are one of the most hated groups that I had the displeasure of playing against. That style of play literally drove people away from the game since they played only to make you so miserable that you would quit the game. They also wanted to do many other things that I couldn't even post here without it getting edited. Having guilds, groups, and individuals that can be classified as bad guys is good for any game, but groups like the Evil Bastages took that to a level that was unhealthy for the game and contributed to its slow demise. They were extreme griefers that wanted to ruin your life and laugh at what it did to everyone around them. Yes that is evil, but its also not good for most games that want to be successful.

I'm glad I dumped EVE. Haven't missed it since walking away with 3 year old toons.
What a joke of an MMO.
