If you knew Mittani personally(Which I did) you will know he prides himself in coming off well. Even to our enemies. He doesn't want to be seen as a childish school yard bully and he goes way out of his way to pursue t hat image. What happened at the panel is the farthest from what he typically wants to be seen as could be. Those facts alone make me say what he did here was a serious gaff, not something pre planned.

As for Goons in general, we are literally everywhere. Not in the anon bs sort of way. There are tens of thousands of goons that do things far beyond gaming. I have a Goon friend locally that is a complete car nut and works for NASA, another who is a rock climbing enthusiast. I also know for a fact that one of Riots staff active on these forums is both a Goon and played Eve with myself and others.

Being a Goon does not innately make you a bad person. Eve is not where Goons come from and Eve is not where all Goons go. Heck most Goons I know actually refer to Eve Goons as just that. Eve Goons, a completely separate subspecies.

The slide existed beforehand. That part was clearly planned, and the fact that the slide existed and this was part of his topic tells us that, at most, he's sorry he said it publically in a way that did not come off well.

That's the disconnect.

People think he was bad to intend to harass someone into committing suicide, which he very clearly intended long before he posted anything; that slide was his illustration of a thing he had already been doing for some time. People are complaining that this is unacceptable behavior.

But he's not sorry for that. He's sorry he made it visible in a way that reflected badly on his public image, or could have even exposed him to some kind of legal risk. That's all he's expressed any kind of genuine regret for. He's clearly indicated that the rest of it was a purely pro forma apology offered not out of any feeling, but because it mitigates coming off badly.

In short, as you say, he prides himself in coming off well. Offering a nicely-written apology is a way to improve peoples' impression of him, so of course he'd do it. This has nothing at all to do with meaning any of it.

It was just a random happenstance? That makes no sense to me, and I have a hard time understand why the EVE goons are suddenly sticking up for him doing that saying it was either unplanned, acceptable or that the players should just get over it.

I used to like the EVE goons, I'm just not a fan of Mittens. This sort of thing isn't really something you'd see Darius doing (and the tears from the current goons I'd say probably wouldn't have happened either), or at least he'd own up to it and be like "man up and get over it", instead of acting like Mittani and trying to pretend that even though we all knew it was coming, even though we all heard the interview with him and CCP Soundwave saying he would tell us this, that it was entirely unplanned. Just get the temp ban over with and boot me off CSM, I have other accounts anyway", and after seeing the EVE goons crying like highsec miners who just got suicide ganked... I lost a lot of respect for them. Just seems that the goons have gone downhill a lot since the CEO change.

CCP kicked him from his "senior position", he tried to get away with just stepping down as Chairman but remaining on as a member. CCP and the playerbase LOLed at his tenacity and now he is properly removed.

Sorry dude but after a cursory look over of your post history both in this and a few other MMOs I am going to have to say you've always had an axe to grind when it comes to Goons. Which is fine, lot's of people do, but don't pretend otherwise.

Dude I'd be thrilled to get some sources there. Cause I'm thinking back and I certainly don't remember speaking ill of the EVE goons in general on these forums, and I didn't even know there WERE goons in other games until yesterday.

I take it back, I can remember one time accusing current goonies in EVE of being nullbears on these forums. But, again, goons have gone downhill in the past few years IMO

I'm posting on a cell phone at the moment. The amount of effort it would take to link sources goes far beyond what I am willing to put forth here.

You clearly identify with Eve to a great extent as is visible from your avatar, you declare yourself a 0.0 pirate, whatever that means. Last I checked the only "pirates" in 0.0 sit on empire choke points at 0 in hopes easy prey comes through.

How many people do you think would buy that? So, I look forward when you get to a medium that will allow you to share those resources with the rest of the class. Until then, don't expect much response on the matter.

Though I suggest anyone who wants to double check this google "Tolmos" and "goons" and see what comes up. I haven't found much yet, but maybe others will.

And I'm actually a lowsec pirate (not 0.0 pirate or whatever you called me), meaning I could give 2 craps what happens in highsec or 0.0. Lowsec is the only place where real PvP takes place, and getting caught in an alliance attack would require a total idiot since, if you see 20+ goons suddenly come into local, you know to bolt if you are alone. So all together, the only thing 0.0 alliance politics and highsec carebear politics do to me is give me something fun to read.

Plus most lowsec 'rats fly cheap ships or frigs anyway, and we have tons of spares ready to go. So if I lose one, it's usually lulzworthy to have an evemail with 20+ people pewing me. Of course, goons are known for their love of Rifters so I usually get some fun one on one frigate fighting with them when I see one

I guess I find it strange that you would make such an outrageous claim when, just earlier in the thread, I was actually arguing with someone about how guilds like goons were a great part of sandbox pvp games. >_> That makes it seem a little more fantastical.

A quick googling will show he views being a "Bad guy" as a positive thing because he once viewed himself as such in Darkfall as a part of the group Evil Bastages, he recognizes Goons are the same sort of entity but that doesn't mean he likes them.

Also Darius hated pubbies(no goons) far far more than any other leader Goonswarm has had.
