With all settings up full, it just looks so good, even though I can't use my 3d vision, it's still great.

Age of Conan has better graphics, but Rift has a better mix of quality and performance. AoC can't handle large crowds at all.

The graphics are pretty decent, but the performance is really poor. That is something they need to work on, and soon.

I never understood this sentiment, not picking on you just the general thought. The game plays almost as well as single player games using this same engine except it has way more draw, hits GPU memory hard and players in the game, CPU cycles. For my money the game runs exceedingly well considering what is being disaplyed.

This is my experience as well. MMORPGs are tough on performance. Rift holds up well. People like to expect 60 FPS everywhere though. Its not like 30-40 FPS is remotely bad.

Look at Vanguard with everything maxed, that is a beautiful game.

    is just disastrously inconsistent

I can maxxx most of the settings and everything runs 30+ fps all of the time

until a zone event is ending and everyone masses up for the boss - it gets choppy and the boss turns into a massive ball of light that would not look particularily impressive even when it is not chopping out

really annoying, especially when there is no point to it, all of the stuff that involves ridiculous numbers of people is entirely bland by design. can't have 100+ people in a fight that requires any real coordination.

kinda sidetracks from the graphics discussion but thas what it comes back to for me I think

A mediocre 560 Ti has my quad core phenom machine running just fine for everything from warfronts to HK, ultra with shadows off.

That's not exactly an inspiring screenshot.. I see good textures, but an ugly lack of vegetation (and the trees look bad). And then there's just some obnoxious bloom shader making things look unrealistic. There are times Rift really does have great graphics, but that is really not one of them, imo.

Given that most MMO's look horrible, I have to agree. AoCs engine was bad, as is the texturing. Game looked like you were playing with playdough people. Just my opinion though.

Rifts Character models are excellent, and I notice less slow down than in other MMOs. The environment detail is a little meh, but it's still better than most.

Here we go again. Every time there is a thread about the quality of an MMO, some guy brings up Vanguard. The game with a lower framerate in dungeons than outside, dissapearing textures, a large, empty world, bugged mining nodes, and un-inspired artwork

Trouble with pics or video, they can't do the graphics justice to what I'm seeing on a 120hz monitor at 1680 x 1050, the rich colours , bump mapping and textures just look great, And the detail. And AoC graphics have nothing on rift in my opinion

I agree. the AoC graphics were nice but Rift has the best view distance graphics. In other words, distant mountains in Rift look amazing whereas in AoC they are just grey colored and solid.

AoC, Aion and Vanguard all have = or better graphics than Rift (though AoC did not run as well and Vanguard had very odd animation and looked plasticy)
