    Default SW ToR vs RIFT

This is all my opinion and I have played both a little bit now. I have gotten to level 20 in SW ToR and have a rank 5 in RIFT.
Smoothness. I have a 1g video card and plenty of ram. My other stats are also very good. This machine is a beast. For RIFT it is very smooth. I think in my 3 hours of play today I had one lag spike that was under 10 seconds. SW ToR on low settings is choppy for me. This is more noticeable as I am melee. RIFT wins this one hands down. If I was not melee I would probably still feel the same way.

Story. RIFT has a unique story told pretty well. Very well compared to most MMOs. SW ToR I feel has a more interactive story and it feels more like you are a part of it. SW ToR wins this one.

Class style. For this one SW ToR starts out seeming like you get a more unique class system then in other games, but in reality it is just like having 8 choose able classes. For RIFT I feel like with my cleric I have more options then I did at the start of SW ToR. Some people might feel that too many options would be confusing but if you narrow it down to the style you wish to play it isn't. RIFT wins this one.

Environment. SW ToR has the Star Wars legacy that I love to draw from. I love both sci fi and fantasy. The space stations and cantinas seem neat and I do enjoy them a bit. The planet environments seem like random terrain with mobs thrown into it, not very interactive. RIFT has a very interactive environment that is unique to the RIFT world. There is no nostalgia to RIFT yet, but that means that it has to be better to win this one. I feel that what they did with having the world create dynamic situations with or without players makes me feel that RIFT wins this one. Both are neat, but the only draw to the Star Wars one over RIFT is that it is Star Wars... I love Star Wars in general.

Overall I feel that both are good games. I personally like RIFT more. I might play through the story in SW ToR but then I am not sure if I will play much beyond that.

All of what I said was opinion and people can make their own decisions... this is just how I feel.

Yeah-story/questing is about the only thing SWTOR is beating Rift at (although huttball has some neat stuff).

One of the problems also is the casual, not really an MMO player will probably buy it on the IP name alone and wonder where's Luke and Darth and why can't i play a wookie ?

The next few months will be interesting in the Universe of SW: Tired Of Running...

    Hi everyone,

We already have several ongoing discussions about this topic. If you'd like to share your thoughts, you'll find the main discussion thread here:

We're going to close this thread and ask that this discussion continue in the thread linked above so we can keep the discussions about this topic a little better consolidated.

As a friendly reminder, we do recommend using the forum search function (searching in thread titles works best) and checking through the last couple pages to see if there is already an existing thread about a topic you'd like to discuss. When topic discussions are consolidated, it not only makes it easier to use the search function, but it also aids the Rift Community and Development Teams when reading the forums and gathering feedback from your posts, ideas, and concerns.
