Well glad Scott cleared it up but this is like saying a member of the republican party must be "pro-life." Membership in an organization does not automatically mean supporting it's entire platform. The inability for so many on these forums to see the shades of grey that encompass rl boggles my mind.

I've done a bunch of research on it and basically if Trion supported SOPA it meant any of us who made a youtube video of, for example, us killing akylios, and then posted it youtube, could actually be convicted of a felony and sentenced to up to 5 years in prison.

I can understand why you implied I was joking. I am being serious. I think the conversation on why I view SOPA as a flawed but necessary law is off topic though. Being on topic, if TRION does not support copyright infringement laws then they should walk the walk and make it free or I'll threaten to cancel my account.

Let's propose a law.

It's a law that's intended to prevent shoplifting.

The way it works is that if anyone thinks you have a thing which could have been obtained from a store, and it's small enough to fit in your pocket, the apartment building you live in gets locked and bombarded with tear gas.

Here's the reality, and I say this as someone who makes a living on intellectual property:

The purpose of copyright is not to guarantee absolute and successful control. It's to provide an incentive for creative work. Creative workers are, these days, making a pretty good living. That is all we need. A law which endangers fundamental freedoms and allows immense damage to be done is a stupid law.

And when I say stupid, I mean that there are three possibilities:
1. You're joking.
2. You are absolutely, totally, incapable of considering the consequences of actions.
3. You are genuinely evil.

Those are the options. There is no other option. There is no genuine, rationally considered, support for this law.

We don't need it. You can tell we don't need it because writers, musicians, and programmers are making a living right now. Yes, infringement happens. I don't care. I care whether enough people buy my stuff to feed me.

I see you have left the topic and moved on to discussing the merits or lack there of, of SOPA. Feel free to start a thread in off topic about the law. I'm under the impression that this thread is about if TRION does or does not support the law and if we are canceling our accounts as a result.

Thus far, TRION does not support the law and I'm the one threatening to cancel my account. I say threaten as I am not a fickle activist that thinks a game developer like TRION has any bearing on what law Congress does or does not pass. If I have an issue with a law that is being proposed I go to any of the very frequent Call IN Town Hall Meetings that my representative (Texas 11th District) has and tell him I think it s a crap law and why. Edit: And if he does not listen I threaten him with a lack of my vote in the next election.

I understand people being freaked out about the discovery that they cannot possibly completely control the Internet, but the fact is... You can't control everything. And SOPA has as collateral damage "basically everyone and everything, especially things that are disliked by large corporations", and doesn't really help.

Haha, 'the_real_seebs' being picky and all picked out the right word. I threaten to cancel my account. As my larger wall of text suggests, I doubt TRION would have any impact if they did or did not support it. Me threatening to cancel my account as 'the_real_seebs' also noted was more me poking fun at all the people in this thread saying they would cancel theirs if TRION did support it.
