That's pretty much why I'm here.
As the boss in that situation, that is why I buy new workstations and compiler servers every generation. Quad Nehalem-EX, or Magney-Cours workstations with a 20-blade IBM systemI compiler server ends all sword fights. Everyone gets 15 minutes every 2 hours here though, and an hour for lunch. Without it you programmers lose all your creative juices, get too ADHD, and get too whiney.

I just want to control when the slacking happens, trying to eliminate slacking causes more in rebellion IMO.

Yeah..... IDK..... got nothing interesting to say.... i just want someone to talk too :-)
I work web IT, and while my days aren't particularly slow, per se, alot of what I do on a daily basis is just watching progress bars tick as I upload new builds and compile code... so this does leave me with a good chunk of time with which I can entertain myself in fine places like this form.

You sound like a cool boss to work for. Unfortunately our company is run with the notion that computers are only marginally necessary, when in fact we're a media company and they are entirely necessary. But we also run on a shoe-string budget and the guy in charge still resides in an era where boards printed in the late 1960s are good enough... so it's a wonder that my immediate supervisor was even able to get the quad-core that I currently use at all.

TBH - It's actually kind of overkill for most of what I do, only really used when I'm rendering clips... what we really need here is better bandwidth.

7am-4pm here. Steady couple of weeks but most days I take a look at the new post. Some are good, others amusing. While others just make me cry inside.

8-5 and all work is computer based here; the company presumes a certain percentage of our time will be spent on our own business and so long as it's not flagrantly abused we're permitted to cruse the web..

Also in IT here, but nothing complicated, just scanning. I usually don't even say I work in IT, since I don't feel that qualified. Pretty slow this week because of the holiday, that's why I can cruise here a bit and give Elrar fancy linguistic fodder for his signature.

I work 9-8, and hardly ever have anything to do.

I work 12 hours a day and am frequently without anything to do that is work related. Recently got finished watching Naoki Urasawa's Monster on youtube. Really amazing series. Check it out if you're bored.
