    Default Ideas for player housing

Here are some ideas I've had for playing housing for a long time, as some of you may already have.

    1. ) Some more secondary professions that can add to the housing:
a.) Carpentry, to make bed frames, furniture, additions, or the houses themselves
b.) Masonry or stonework, to make paths, landscaping setups, or castles/forts for private use or guilds
c.) Gourmet cooking or baking, so you can cook in your very own oven, to make your own cakes (large ones at that) to share at events or in raids for temporary food buffs, or to give bonus's while resting. ... Iron chef cook-off as one example.

d.) Gardening, to plant flowers, shrubs, play with dirt, etc.
e.) Farming, to grow our own food (this depends on how much "yard" space we get of course)
f.) Herding, so we can flock our own sheep (or burn them with a fireball...no just kidding, that's mean

2.) Add effects such as fireplaces, mantles, and rooms. Don't just have a bare square of a structure and say "have at it", unless that's what a player wants.

3.) To touch on structures more, give us options to get a basic one-room, one-floor home for cheap (on the housing scale that is), or have options to either buy different style homes, or upgrade existing ones.

4.) Offer basement possibilities, or our own dungeons... you know, for good things, nothing evil...

5.) Offer second floors, third floors, or just towers for those follks who want their visitors to work for themselves to see the top view of their personal structure.

6.) Let individuals or large groups access to the homes

7.) Make the scenery gorgeous, and have varying degrees of what we could see, from rolling green hills, or ravaged landscape if we so desired.

8.) The ability to summon our own personal rifts?

9.) Personal portals to places around Telara?

10.) Have at least as much variety of housing as there are races to play, but more is obviously welcome to better suit different styles...just because I'm a dwarf doesn't mean I wouldn't mind living like a Kelari, or Regulos for that matter ...you know, for those dark and morbid types .

11.) Music in our homes? Will it exist, or will it be some homy style acoustic tune to put us asleep?

    12.) Don't forget the mattress...

13.) Make the houses functional, not just iconic to express a players personal tastes. Let them be dynamic in a sense...don't ask me how to do that, I'm not a developer

14.) The ability to make houses public or private, despite them being in their own dimension of sorts. Let us have our own NPC's to sell wares that we find or craft, whatever that may be.

15.) Decorations for inside such as flowers, tapestries, trophies, our favorite weapons over a potential mantle, and so on.

One thing that has not been accomplished in any MMO in nearly 15 years is massive player housing, on the scale that you can own anything from a shack to a castle and fill it with endless number of things, from bureaus to wall decor to NPC merchants and more. Auction houses are fun central hubs to get what you need, but having some special items that are one of a kind and personally sold at our own homes would make it feel that more special The only game that did this was Ultimate Online. That game is ancient now and I haven't played it in over ten years, but the idea of having so many crazy options for homes is awesome. That was UO's best quality, the shear customization of it all. It has to be done right though..I didn't say UO did it right, only that it was cool, hehe.

Feel free to share your own insight on these ideas, and list your own.

Heck, if I see a door that can open and close I will be jumping around with joy.
It'll be interesting to see what they're going to do with those slivers of Telara you can own come the expansion.

    #6: They'll be guild owned.
#8: I always dreamt of my own Rift right in my backyard! .. No, not really - I think it's important to have something to lure people out of their houses too.
#9: Porticulums. If they work across the slivers.. Otherwise I'd say no to portals inside the sliver.

The guild owned aspect may or may not be the only part of it, and if it was it probably won't be that way forever. Too many people will want their own homes, which is justifiable.

As for peoples own rifts, I meant it for a special event thing, not a do whenever you feel like sort of thing. It doesn't even have to be a normal rift, but a single summoning of a specific creature, or perhaps it could just be something related to a story arc.

As for the ports, I didn't mean anywhere, it could just be for specific places, specific to a guild, or perhaps something only a mage can do (just because it seems to fit mages more, but some other class may be able to do it).

Anything could work, it's all a matter of how it's implemented.

    Imagination is welcome!

LOTRO does have a good housing system. I admire what they've done. Speaking of, it's one of the few free to plays out right now I should really play.

Other additions relate more to Rift’s social aspects than to its battles. Capes are coming, for instance, along with player areas called dimensions that function somewhat like player housing in other MMOGs. Let’s say you rested at a Telaran inn that overlooked a shimmering waterfall. How great would it be to claim that inn for you and your guildmates? What if there was a parallel universe, where you could decorate it and furnish your inn just as you wanted? That is precisely what dimensions will offer: a way to own your very own corner of a very big game.
This is from the Gamespot article found here. It sounds like you can copy and paste into your own dimension, then decorate how you choose.

I hope the OP's ideas about professions creating housing items comes along with this along with all the aesthetic ideas mentioned. I love the thought of working to create items for my dimensional housing!

I think many housing fans may be disappointed.

Default I want persoaml hopuses - LOTRO did it right

A few people have mentioned the housing in lotro, and with good reason. It was great.

Mobs dropped trophies you could decorate your house with. It was a very cool way to show off your raid kills in your front yard.

On the other side they had crafting recipes to make decor as well. It served all tastes. My wife had a lovely cottage across from my house, with garden and bookcases and maps, my house looked like a Moose lodge with all kinds of raid boss trophies inside and out.

If it is just guild houses, that will disappoint greatly. Guilds in this game a re very transitory, I wont be working to get stuff and put it in a guild house when even the most established guilds are blowing up all the time.

It is a great sink for plat as you have to pay rent/taxes, and it gets players personally invested in the game. It makes it much more personal when you have your own private space in the world they created. It makes it more real.

Guild houses are great too, but they are just the bar in sanctum that only your guild can enter. It doesn't make the world more personal to the individual player. You need both, instances with 4 guild houses and 20-30 personal houses. We would rally at the guild house to start raids, it was social and fun, but at the end it was always nice to go back to your own house across the street or down the rod and admire your goodies or show your friends.

Guild houses had 3 additional large storage banks, private houses had 2 medium sized extra banks. It was the place everyone stored event trinkets and currency, the stuff you don't need all the time.

It also made me as a top leveled player go back and grind older content just to get the cool trophy. It extended the life of the content.

ON the other hand if it is just guild houses, i would not be real excited to have to kick in for rent for a house i have no ownership of. If I win the roll on a cool trophy, I want to put it in my front yard, not surrender it to the guild. I wont want to farm a cool furnishing recipe if i cant make one for my house. Personal houses are a great reward opportunity, where as guild houses only will diminish the motivation to work for the goodies.

I really hope they do both.

One feature I'd like to see is a garden. So I can sit in the sun and enjoy my meeeaaad!

We'll have to wait and see, but any house is better than no house. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's not cool.

    I can't wait!

What I mean is that it may be 'housing', but nothing about customizing your houses themselves.

Basically buy out a sliver version of Granite Falls tavern and maybe have the option to change aspects of it.

I'm open to Trion announcing more though...

Music, with tracks you can earn via events and drops (but don't make them too absurdly hard to get!).

PSU allowed something along those lines. You could purchase a certain amount of songs from vendors. New events would bring about new songs that could be purchase with the event currency, and playing the casino games could get you a couple unique ones as well.

Even further, there were some that dropped from specific mobs (without a brutal rate on them, and they could be sold anyway IIRC).

Music in MMO housing tends to be sorely lacking and overlooked!

this may be way off base... but how bout for us pvpers if we can "raid" an enemy guild's housing? Kinda like a pvp rift "in their house"
