Rank 40 Mage @ Faeblight
Yeah they said it especially in podcasts. Hartsman specifically noted his experience when he introduced guild housing in EQ2. He saw that as the nail in the coffin for what he sees as important, city hubs that feel alive. He even went so far as to say that the reason why the crafting and AH hubs are in the cities and not in the general zones was to cobtribute to this.
Another dev when asked about it (in the context of forum threads) said other devs purposefully e-mail him the threads because the cause him "physical pain." (That is actually a direct quote.)
I think the main issue is the expectations. If the majority did not want to see practical amenities I think we could see fluff housing but with all of the people who want practical housing I think they err on the side of caution rather than create a flash point for the practical aspects to be focused on.

Well I personally want housing that's pure fluff.
If I want to craft, AH, do anything of importance, I can go to the capital.
I don't want to bring my work home, I just want a house/room/whatever to decorate and just be another side thing like fishing.
Heck, they don't even have to let you gain rested when you're in your house. That would be a major way to get people to to sit there all day.
Okay, well I'll lie. Having some kind of wardrobe so I have a spot to but all my stupid costume gear would be nice, or just increase bank slots.
Would be nice if done like lotro with the neighbourhoods, still kept that community feel that way.

I think we should instance one big house, place cameras everywhere, and distribute it as entertainment when people argue about leaving the toilet seat up. And then we have a rudimentary competition of some sort to kick a player out of the house, and save their tearful exit for every Tuesday night before server reset.
I just KNOW that's never been done before. I'm guessing people would eat it up.![]()

I haven't expected to see player housing for a while, but the growing storage problem is leading me to believe that they can either put a bandaid over the problem or create a larger long term solution that incorporates player housing of some kind. I think recent discussions about lack of storage are probably making things like housing move forward on the timeline.
Quit. {All exploits are equal, but some are more equal than others}
"Well, perhaps your feelings may be different," said Alice; "all I know is, it would feel very queer to me."
"You!" said the Caterpillar contemptuously. "Who are you?"
No please.
I don't want to see empty cities.
Yes actually on wolfsbane the capitals usually stay pretty crowded even in the early morning.Myself, I kick it in sanctum until I see a zone event or pug raid popup. But it's not just standing around all the time.Often times I shoot the **** with people and/or duel.Work on rotations on dummies, craft, browse the AH, and yeah a little standing around too.
It's a great atmosphere imo to do these things.I like it the way it is.Better than standing in an instanced guildhall with full ammenities allday. For me, the atmosphere/immersiveness is a big deal.A populated main city/capital is a big part of that for me.
NO to guildhalls. Housing wouldn't be a bad idea if it wasn't as bland as rift crafting and there were no ammenites avalible to place inside. It would need to be a sophisticated setup with thousands (eventually) of placeable crafted objects/furniture/paintings/carpets/tables/chairs/ etc etc... mabey even a trophy room for defeted bosses heads to rest. You would get the heads as rewards from boss kill achievements. All of the items would have to be scaleable any size you wanted (Shift + wheel to size the object for example).Else, it be a let down and I personally probably wouldn't even bother dabbling with it.
