Look at these posts. This happened before Headstart and during closed beta from what I can tell. A "good number" of goon squad guild members were already deciding on going to Lotham. LOL trolled massive. The author of this thread even posted in it.

Do I still think it is wrong for a GM to take away a guild name from a smaller guild and given to a larger group of people? Sure -- but as the story unfolds...

Here is the situation. Our guild shares a name with another much larger guild, it has been like this for many years, and who is to say who started out first?

Before launch day the much larger guild that shares our name chose to go to one of the "top" PVP servers. We saw this and choose to go to Lotham. Head start comes around and we hustle and get the name within the first hour of the server starting.

The next day, the other guild decided that que times were to long on the server they chose so they moved over to our server. (I am sure they had no idea who we are or where were). They protested to a GM that we stole the name, and guess what? The GM disbanded out guild and gave it to them!! Even though we can show that we have used it in other games, and can show they posted that they were not even going to be on our server. Pretty lame if you ask me.

I guess it shows that GM's in this game will favor the larger guilds.

Well if it makes you feel any better no guild is allowed that named by turbines TOS. Here are 3 reason why no guild can be named that.

Yeah well, anyone who played EVE can vouch for how credible and mature Goon Squad is/has been in the last few years, or rather since forever.

The fact that this is about Goon Squad in the first place makes this entire thread qualify for being locked.

A question. If a small guild were to run named as <Nike> or <Captain Crunch>, would the persons who hold that registered trademark be able to come into the game and petition for that guild to be disbanded or name changed? What is the policy on guild names and trademarks? I'm not even sure if my given examples would fall into this category of infringement on intellectual property, but I'm sure you can come up with an appropriate scenario yourself.

Read the eula. It's on the website. The rules regarding names are all in there. Basically you're not allowed to use anything that anybody has a copyright in.

I've never heard of them until this post, and I've been playing MMOs since nearly the beginning of EQ.
