Can I gift digital Rift to a friend?

I have Rift bought through Trion. I want to buy another digital copy and gift the key. When I go into my account I don't see how to do that. So my questions:

1. Can I buy another copy without linking it to my account?

2. Can I buy another copy without setting up a payment plan since I already have my own payment plan?

3. Can my friend set up an account, then download the game and or apply the key I buy to his account?

You might be able to "gift" the game from direct2drive. I've done that before with several games for my younger brother. At the checkout/cart page, there should be an option to "gift to a friend", maybe that helps?"

Steam as well has this option.

Thanks for the answers, I'm checking those out. But it would be an expensive lesson if it doesn't work so hoping someone has actually gifted it or a Rift employee can tell me for sure. Would also prefer to purchase through Trion.
