Default Number of possible soul combinations per calling

It seems this question gets asked daily and I always try to answer it, but sometimes it gets lost in a multiple page thread. So I thought I would post it here.

Some quick math about the soul system. Enjoy.

There are 84 possible unique builds if you include the pvp soul. (n=9, r=3, no, no)
There are 56 possible unique builds if you dont include the pvp soul. (n=8, r=3, no, no)
There are 28 possible unique builds if you assume the pvp soul is always being used. (n=8, r=2, no, no)

These solutions were found using the below calculator by inputting the values listed in parenthesis.
    http://www.mathsisfun.com/combinator...alculator.html

This does not include talent point allocations, only unique soul combos.

This is why you shouldn't sleep through math class.

    This isn't really a secret
The devs said somewhere that there are 336 total soul combinations using the pvp souls.

    336 / 4 callings = 84

yes as i just said in another thread.
thats 42 accounts full with 8 chars to get every single soul combination.

Then .. you can start to spec them differently :P

    Without PvP Souls:
    8 x 7 x 6 = 336

    With PvP souls:
    9 x 8 x 7 = 504

    Four classes: 336 x 4 = 1344 without PvP soul, 2016 with PvP soul.

Now, taking into consideration all the different ways you could invest the points you earn on the way to 50 would be a bit trickier. ;)

Of course, if you want to be a cynic, you could point out that sooner or later there's going to emerge a select few archetypes that are best at doing various things. Perhaps 4 configurations per class, which (due to the flexibility of role switching) is as much as anyone would be able to take, so everybody will end up playing the exact same character per class.

Being a stick-in-the-mud min/maxer is its own punishment, though. Personally, I plan to experiment with weird builds.

This is incorrect, as this allows for the same soul to be picked multiple times.
As far as the number of possibilities with talent points, someone in the old class board had it figured out at way over 151,000

    8 x 8 x 8 allows for the same soul to be picked multiple times, but 8 x 7 x 6 does not, right?

That you have three different soul trees doesn't particularly matter in that regard. You're picking three regardless.
