I didn't know you could beat an MMO...?
I didn't know you could beat an MMO...?
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.
I will beat this game like it owes me money.

I went from level 1 to 30 this beta on my mage. This was mostly because I was purposely not reading the quests and rushing around. I will be leveling a bit slower once the game comes out and will be reading quests, taking my time, and enjoying the game. Other things that can keep you occupied while leveling are the warfronts, rifts, invasions, and crafting.
I don't think there will be a lack of things to do once I hit max level. =)
The OP is correct. Levelling is way too fast.
I bought DCUO that was released this month and maxed my character in a week of not trying. That is bogus. Did a second character nearly to max without effort. So I am done with that game (even though it is a good game except for the UI). They shall not get my $15/month. I dont want Rift to be the same, but it shall likely be. Levelling speed is way to fast for my playstyle, though it is OK for others.
There are a couple solutions. Champions Online has a difficulty meter, that lets you set your own game difficulty. For Rift I would like to see an XP Slider implemented. If you want to level fast you can leave it at 100%, but if you want the game to last you can slide it down to 10% of normal XP or even less. This seems like an ideal solution for most. I freaking want to crank down that XP and keep paying for this game for a long time, but I doubt Trion shall let me pay them more money by implementing this feature.
The second solution is another Server ruleset, comprised of much harder mobs and much less XP rewards. This is more difficult to code and maintain, but might also work. Again, they likely wont implement that as well.
Once I believe I have seen most the content I leave a game. There are significant amount of players who feel the same. Please accomodate us as well.
I agree. Most people just pick up quests and look on the map and do it. Have fun with the game by reading the quests and getting into the story. It will make the game alot longer and when your in an instance and some mob is yelling something that makes no sence to you cause you dont know the story you can only blame yourself.
Seriously... if people just click accept on quests without even reading them and then looking on the map to see where the objective is, of course your going to breeze through the game. Take your time, read the quests, explore the areas, look for collectiables(artifacts). The game will last alot longer. This generation of mmorpg players dont even seem to care about levels 1-49, its just a race to 50 then..."WHERES THE ENDGAME?!"
EDIT: Also, if people would read the damn quests we wouldnt have people yelling "where is soandso for this quest?" 90% of the time the quest giver will tell you exactly hat to do and where to go.

I have no plans to take my time to level. I am not alone in this thought process. They had better have a good end game laid out. A poorly designed end game has killed a good many MMO's.
Exactly.
The other side of that problem is that questing is being spoon-fed to players. They have it all marked out on the map, and there's a TLDR version of the text at the bottom of every quest, so you don't even have to read it.
I remember when quests used to just give you general directions, and it was up to you to explore and figure it out. Forgive me if I use a wow reference, but I remember spending three weeks in Darkshore leveling from 10-18, til I could go into Ashenvale, and it was awesome having to figure things out. It also bolstered the feeling of community since players would help one another find places when they got lost.
Alas, that is no more.
I heard all xp was like 200% for beta so....
This is exactly what I've been thinking and voicing to some of my friends that are in Beta with me.
I hope they planned ahead because this game is really quite fun from 1-30. Its the 45-50+ "end game" that I'm concerned with. I hope it is expansive enough that it keeps us busy for 6+ months and new content constantly coming online.
