    Default ownt by Wikipedia!

Correcting grammar in a public forum is at least in as poor form as using (unintentionally) bad grammar. That will teach you.

I will point out, however, that Wikipedia is in many cases not considered scholarly for reference, as it is public source and able to be trolled.

Merriam Webster wants a word with you...

And be nice to Amary! She is one of the few that actually talk to us still.

Grammar nazism is the lowest form of intellectual snobbery.

Further and farther are synonymous except when using 'further' to mean 'moreover'.

Don't be a grammar ****. You never know when your anal retentive middle school English teacher was actually wrong.

People can have great senses of humor about so many things, but for some reason they never find correcting grammar reason for amusement. Sheesh :3 :P Further is a measure of progression in idea or time, while farther is measuring actual physical space.

I know most people won't care (and tbh I really don't either, I just found it funny :P,) but still, why get so pi**ed off at a lesson rather than open your mind and learn I personally enjoy being wrong, means I get to learn moar

Well, since you said to check M-W, I did. Lookie what they give for examples for further:
    • We need to look back further into the past to find the cause of these problems.
    • I've never been further west than St. Louis.
    • Their house is further up the street.
    • We need to research further into this matter.
    • The police have been reluctant to take their investigation any further.
    • “They are not our friends.” “I would go even further and say they are our enemies.”
    • I had enough money to invest. I realized, further, that the risk was small.

They've already looked into the past, they need to look further (not physical space)
    • I've never been further west than St. Louis.
no clue, 'farther' sounds wordy, further sounds wrong, i'd say further there. maybe because it's talking about they've been west, but not THAT west? i dunno.. confused my brain
    • Their house is further up the street.
      I would use farther here
    • We need to research further into this matter.
      Good sentence
    • The police have been reluctant to take their investigation any further.
      Good sentence
    • “They are not our friends.” “I would go even further and say they are our enemies.”
      Good sentence
    • I had enough money to invest. I realized, further, that the risk was small.
      wut

    ...
    And I never said to check M W :3

If we assume those sentences are all correct (though on the last one I would say 'I then realized...') then I think the rule is: farther is a measure of physical distance and further is intangible progression... except when it's not

Though I still think in the patch notes farther should have been used :3

    Unless!! They did already move the snakes away from the rocks.. then it works.. D;

    Reminds me of today's xkcd.

    http://xkcd.com/1167/

    GRAMMAR NAZIS HOOOOOO!!!!!!

But in all seriousness, I see no reason for the OP to apologize.

In business writing, which patch notes surely are as they are analogous to press releases, the author should use the most accurate word and not one whose morphology in a given context conveys a different meaning.

/lets see if we can beat the 40,000 words of wiki-babble on whether "into" should be capitalized

If you are going to be pedantic about using the correct word, at least don't be a hypocrite.

    THAN

    THAN I THINK

THEN refers to a subsequent article in a chronological series.

THAN refers to a comparison of articles.

Default This lost its luster pretty fast.

I think it is time for Thorne to close this one. Send it to oblivion! Or the second page!
