I think I had to do a double-take when I read the article on Massively about this.

    THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING NEWS!

So can't wait to see AA in the US now! This is pretty much the best thing that could've happened to the game with finding a US publisher that doesn't screw them over

Hooray! Best Trion news I've heard for a long time! Heck I'm more excited about this than I was for SL.

It always looked pretty epic... but with it being heavily eastern, I haven't been following it very closely. But now I have no excuse!

    Huzzah!

We all have different goals in life, maybe he wasn't on the path he wanted to be on at Trion.

Went ahead and fixed Gilthanes URL so we stop killing some poor guy whose completely unrelated to video games website

Just to note www.archeage.com/en is not a site built or maintained by us - it does have some information to get you started on the game, but the English is not properly localized or formatted in some cases.

www.ArcheAgeGame.com will be the official URL for the North American & EU release of ArcheAge!

    Cheers!

Elrar, www.archeagegame.com needs some width handlers for those viewing on narrow screens. Firefox displays no horizontal scrollbar even when shrinking window size horizontally so content is pushed off the side.

the game looks nice, but it does look a bit like L2, aion and etc. with that said, it reminds me of ncsoft games, which i hate with a passion. their games are so damn grindy.

so trion, i have faith in you!

ps. sad to see scott goes. he was "1 of us" from the beginning..

Part of the localization process Trion needs to do is make the game accessible to the Western audience which in undoubtedly less grind oriented than the East. So, your worries may be for naught.

How good a game is also has nothing to do with how well it sells. Look at SWTOR and Age of Conan. It's all in the marketing because gamers will always buy anything. You could practically half code it to be barely functional, completely and totally buggy, and even have it make BSODs 10x an hour and THOUSANDS of people will still buy it if the marketing copy is good enough. Many gamers are addicted to their games and they will literally buy anything.

It's primarily how MMO developers can get away with releasing unfinished products with half-baked or missing features. They know people will buy it anyway so why not start the monetization process sooner? With the average sub age dipping below 3 months across the genre, it doesn't even pay to get people to stay anymore.

All they have to do is score with launch and do a mini "reinvite" a month or two later and score again... followed by an invite your friends program a month or two after that for another score which leads up to an expansion for another score. Subs are nice to have but the money in PC gaming is mostly in initial sales these days.

It's also why companies like Trion laid off so many support staffers. You don't need to retain subs in a market whose customers have no brand loyalty... so the companies don't really need to care about them either because the customers do not statistically stay with a title for any appreciable time on average. For every annual account holder on an MMO, there's probably between 7,000 and 8,000 people who didn't play for 2 weeks.

I have more faith in Trion than I do with Ncsoft. I want to play Blade & Soul but I don't want to get into it and then Ncsoft just screws it up again.

The Trion devs actually have a brain and always try to do the very best they can. So I am much more excited now that I know who will be dealing with the NA/EU side of Archeage.

Looks neat but I don't play Asian-ports anymore. I haven't played one I've liked and 2nd-hand port jobs are usually just money grabs anyway (Tera, Aion, L2, RF Online, FFXIV etc...). As regional ports go, the local publisher doesn't do much if any development. So, you're more or less left with getting builds 6 months to a year behind the native releases and it's all just... meeeeeh.

Anyhow, I hope you guys like it but I personally don't play these types of games.
