BTW nothign in telaran lore say you have to wear that full armor (appearance armor lots).
That leads me to believe that your female kelari has made a fashion choice not a required choice to wear full armor.

This would boil down to what do telarans feel is socially ok wear for men and women (notice i said telaran not real world). Looking at the general wear for the npc's I would say they find scantly clad females completely acceptable. Matter of fact i would say that telarans almost expect females to be scantly clad.
Then just as in real world you have your bullish females that choose to not follow the social norm and the occasional males that choose to not fit also and go almost to totally bear.

Oh and i think you gave me a complement and thanks. I am actually a home grown fictional writer. While i have never published any thing my friends have always liked my stories. My problem was always trying to over explain why some thing was the way it was when my readers would rather just use their imagination to explain it.
Guess the some of the people here have a lack of imagination so they cant come to gripes with something that doesnt fit in their mindset (not directed to you specifically just in general).
See my mind sees a scantly clad fighter (male or female) and my mind goes to work with wonderful ways to explain how they can do that or why they do it. Not just go WTF they cant do that!
If i had that kind of mindset then any thing fictional would freak me out i think. FTW there is a dragon and people shooting fireballs they cant do that!
If i can believe there be dragons then i surely can believe that a little bitty dwarf gal in a swimsuit can shoot flaming arrows and kill said dragon. How the world does she even draw the same bow as that big muscular male over there? She short had skinny arms and he is tall and has arms the size of trucks.. So by the law of physics he should be able to draw a stronger bow than my dwarf.
All that said fact is when playing these games one needs to be able to separate real world expectations from the fantasy world ones.
Pff I am more powerfull then Asha! Did not see her defeat Greenscale or Akylios for that matter!
Asha should kneel for me, just that she has a higher ranks says nothing!

Beside I dont wear my gear, have a costume, but thats not the point
This "issue" is not Rift/Telara-related. Its RPG-related.
Sure we can make lore around it(and indeed it was a complement ;)), and explain it lore-wise just to justify it for ourselves. But that does not change the fact that you see it in, almost, every RPG out there
Its just to satisfy the pixel-lovers, nothing more.
Nothing wrong with it though, and I doubt that every developer has that in mind(satisfy the horny underage boys/girls) since it has become a simple fact in "fantasy-world" that chicks are almost nude.

As long as this will stay one of the laws in fantasy-driven storys/games, we indeed must come up with our own lore to justify this for ourselves(if we are bothered by it offc)

Oh my then i bow before the shear might of Neario!

Yes it is a rpg issue.. so much so that one would thing its is a tried and true part of writing rpg lore in any game.
That brings me to the point of when i do see fully cover gals in a rpg that it almost feels out of what is expected (talk about suspending my belief). But i can find ways to justify it in my mind when i do see it. But it still feels odd.
maybe its just that the ones to overly complain about scantly clad females in a rpg game are not truly into or understand the history behind the genre of fantasy.
i see things such as Joan of ark wore full plate and i can say well she lived and fought in the real world not a fantasy one. The norm for fantasy females is more long the lines of red sona! When most people into rpg see a female they think more along the lines of the Conan cover arts (yes Boris rocked!).

Any way 4 am here and nice convo thanks for it!

Then again, if you're strolling inside of a volcano, do you really want to make yourself a baked potato? Attempting to correlate some aspect of realism is a double-edged sword. Additionally, wearing lots of metallic bits in frigid weather is also inviting frostbite.

Not all cultural combatants boasted full armor. More aboriginal tribes were basically their sticks and loincloths with a dash of mushed up berries slathered on their skin. Truly these people were doing it wrong! But battle is like its own form of science, and just as enemies think of better ways to kill each other, so to did ways to defend themselves rise. Stuff like shields and light armor could help deflect blows and light projectiles. But then you see crossbows coming about that could pierce armor, or heavy artillery that didn't really matter and just outright crushed people with boulders or impaled them with spike-tipped trees.

You won't be swimming easily in a hundred pound of suit armor, nor is it particularly stealthy. Dressing lighter can grant higher mobility and longer term endurance, not to mention perks I mentioned earlier. Choice of attire can also serve as a means of distraction, some styles favoring flamboyant design to emphasize wealth of a nation, while others could lean more toward intimidation through depictions of beasts or demons. Even the humble body paints can serve this purpose. Coincidentally, this can also work in the favor of females with skimpy armor. Like it or not, female assassins were also often more successful between the mix of male dominance over the centuries yielding over-confidence/unlikely sources of attack and promises of sexual activity lowering one's guard.

In the end, that digital dragon doesn't care if you're in your birthday suit or cosplaying Iron Man. It wants to eat you. And the last thing your party cares about in that situation is if your butt's hanging out.
its amazing thru out worldwide history men fought in nothing and too some extents in loincloths or basic cloths yet the video game industry focus on medieval full plate armor for coolness etc.....

Imagine if getting hit by a fireball while wearing plate armor the shear power of the fireball could make the plate burn thus burning you from the inside, while the padded armor inside the plate may protect you from the heat its still going to be unconventional and drastically reduce your ability to fight feeling just a little heat.

And not everyone had the wealth to buy armor in war time history so they had to fight with nothing or basic cloths and the season as well the terrain played big role we all see what happen to the french princes in Agincourt full plated covered yet the terrain was so bad that basically that what killed them....

My ingame characters all run around with tunics or helm boots gloves but no chest and pants and not once i felt i should dress them up properly and i am glad that Trion gave us this option to run around naked with our weapons at least i can mimic real life warriors.

    it!
    Aye. true.
Though i like the way TES does it. You see its a female, and their armor is adjusted to that, but you still see its real true armor
But ok I do expect females to wear less in rpg's, especially the fantasy ones. its no big deal imo
    But nighty night then hehe

is this thread some kind of joke, i mean seriously I don't see why people should be forced to wear full plate armor that covers everything. If they want to run around in cloth armor or less let them, half of wolfsbane runs around in there underwear and its about 50/50 male to female chars. Honestly i don't see anybody even looking at this serisouly because a lot of people would be upset if they were forced to be fully covered and its like the same 5 people that have to complain about it. You shouldnt want people to take this crap sexuality it should be about making your character look nice however you want it to (full suit or underwear or anything in between)

btw since you all starting this like the whole straw man argument then omg it violates my freedom of expression because i cant walk around in my underwear online

the thread is not about this! you either misunderstood or did not read, its about the npc's and on top of that the actual gear. not the way players decide how to run around ;)
could indeed be that someone made a remark about it though, but indeed: How you want to walk around, is your choise

I have given it some thought, and I would like to request that we get customisable underwear in the expansion - including mankinis in various bright hues for the more flamboyant male members of the Rift community. Yes, I WANT to be able to go into battle in my neon pink mankini, showing off my chiselled pecs and buns of steel, but apparently only women are allowed sexy under-crackers in Rift, and I feel this is an unnecessary and completely unfair desexualisation of men.

    SEXUALISE US, DAMNIT!
