Real money for mounts... is this a sign?

Im fine with it... I was the 3rd person on shard to get the mount I believe. Trion is constantlyupdating, patching, thinking of new content and making a little extra dough to put towards those means if fine by me. Thanks for the new mount Trion!

1mount can hardly be called milking. If they released this kind of fluff items, for thiskind of price, on montly basis then I would call it milking.

Um, actually this ISN'T the first mount for real money Trion has done in this game.

Tiger, 2 headed turtle, and spider have all been "mounts for real money", and to a lesser extent, so has the Ember Steed.

Never seen anything added after Ashes of History, and I know for sure that that sold very very very good(just look at how many people have the items in game :P)
and thats a year ago ........

still for all I care they can add 10 fluff items per months for this price into a shop. If people care enough about fluff to pay for it: fine with me.

I just looked at the 'shop' and have to say 'WTF is wrong with you people?'
This mount is a promo item, being added to entice prospective subs.
Offering it to the existing player base just makes sense, though for 15 smackeroos it had better crap shinies and provide random stat buffs for each class....

The price is a seperate issue though from whether this is the first step to micro transactions.

The reason the tiger is more.and just a tiger? Lets be brutally honest. The spider was ugly to many. People were not saying "zomg I can't get that beautiful spider without paying". People here are genuinely bent though that they can't get the cool cat though. Trion knows a tiger is going to be a bigger draw. I'll use bicycles again. A lot of people in the bicycling world are willing to pay thousands for an old school steel or aluminum frame made by Dario Pegoretti. Each of his frames is hand painted and uses themes from jazz, poetry etc. He has been compared to Basquiat.


No one would pay thousands for a aluminum or steel frame made by Trek and their machine driven and bland paint schemes.

The same applies here. They know people will pay that for just a tiger because the darn thing is good looking.

Well i always thought Trion cared more for the players than making money, i was deeply mistaken. Instead of worrying with adding cash fuffly shop, fixing the lag would be way better ideia.

Trion is a business, not a charity but in essence they do want their game to be successful so they do care about what players think but they may also more money to deviver a successful game.

Please close this ridiculous thread. Almost every MMO I've ever played has offered extra fluff items for purchase. Keep up the great work and we'll see you in Storm Legion - you know, that extremely massive expansion that you wouldn't be developing at all if Rift were not profitable and doing well.

Anyone with half a brain who stops panicking for one moment will see that there's 0 evidence that they're moving toward creating items solely to sell for extra money and such a thought is highly illogical.

For starters: This mount has been in the game's files already because it was available to Korean Rift players who purchased their version of a Collector's Edition. Therefore it's existed prior to selling it as an RMT.

The only other "cash shop" items for sale are other Collector's Editions (the US and Canadian ones).

They put those past items up for sale so that those who missed out due to joining the game later or being part of a different region could still get access to them if they chose to pay money for it.

The only real complaint would be about the price hike where it's 5 dollars above that of the other two editions. However, if you were to play a different MMO, such as WoW and TERA (which put up a mount for sale only like... two months? after its release), such a mount would cost well over $15. So Trion this also really isn't a sign that they're going the path of Blizzard/other MMOs because they put this mount up for a reasonable price in comparison to competitors, and this mount wasn't created solely for the sale of it in a Real-Money Transaction.

Tl;dr - Stop panicking, this isn't the apocalypse, use your head, and you can see that there's nothing truly wrong with this nor does it have any implications for future transactions. Oh, and remember that this mount is OPTIONAL and unless you really want it there's no reason to complain about Trion offering the Korean Collector's Edition mount to non-Korean players.

Also there's no reason for this thread when there's a 17-page discussion about this + this thread was started by someone who's pretty much a troll.
